A gravure printing unit is usable for printing onto substrate according to a gravure printing method. The gravure printing unit has a forme cylinder, which comprises, on its circumference, an image-forming pattern of recesses, and has an inking unit for inking the pattern of recesses provided on the forme cylinder. The inking unit comprises a first inking unit cylinder, which comprises recesses in a region of its outer cylindrical surface that correspond to the recesses on the forme cylinder, and which form a nip point downstream with a second inking unit cylinder, which comprises, on its circumference, ink-transferring elevations or raised areas. The recesses are formed on the outer cylindrical surface of an ink transfer forme sheath. The first inking unit comprises a cylinder body which is or which can be mounted rotatably in the inking unit and on which a circumferentially closed ink transfer forme sheath, that carries the recesses of the first inking unit cylinder on its outwardly facing surface, is or can be detachably arranged. A printing press has such a gravure inking unit. A setting up method, an ink transfer forme sheath, and a method for producing the same are also disclosed.

Recess printing units are usable for printing on a substrate and using associated methods for operation. The recess printing units comprise an intaglio printing cylinder, which provides an image-forming pattern of recesses on its circumference; and an inking unit for applying ink to the pattern of recesses that are provided on the intaglio printing cylinder. The inking unit comprises a first inking unit cylinder which has, in a region of its lateral surface, recesses corresponding to the recesses in the intaglio printing cylinder and to which recesses ink can be supplied by an ink application device in the region of an application point lying on the circumference of the first inking unit cylinder. A second inking unit cylinder cooperates with the first inking unit cylinder and has, in a region of the lateral surface of the second inking unit cylinder, elevations corresponding to recesses in the intaglio printing cylinder or raised regions corresponding to regions of the image-forming pattern of recesses on the intaglio printing cylinder, which regions comprise recesses. The ink application device also comprises, on at least a downstream side of the application point, with respect to the operating direction of rotation of the inking unit cylinder comprising the recesses, a retaining device in the form of a doctor blade or an ink knife. The second inking unit cylinder comprises, on a lateral surface thereof, elevations corresponding to engraving on the intaglio printing cylinder.

Gravure printing units for printing onto substrates by a gravure printing method

A gravure printing unit is provided by which substrate can be printed according to a gravure printing method. The gravure printing unit has a forme cylinder, which comprises, on its circumference, an image-forming pattern of recesses, and has an inking unit by which the pattern of recesses provided on the forme cylinder can be at least partially inked. The forme cylinder can be partially inked from an inking device via a first inking unit cylinder, which has, in the region of its lateral surface, recesses that correspond to recesses on the forme cylinder, and via a second inking unit cylinder, which is to be partially inked by the first inking unit cylinder. To produce an image element to be used for checking a relative position between the forme cylinder and the first inking unit cylinder, the forme cylinder has, within the printing width but preferably outside of an image-forming pattern of recesses that supplies the print image of one or more N-up copies, and lying in a circumferential region, at least one first recess, which overlaps on the forme cylinder only partially with a projection, which is obtained on the forme cylinder by the rolling off, in pairs in each case, of the inking unit cylinders that are involved in the ink transport, of a recess, which is provided in a defined position and location on the circumference of the first inking unit cylinder for the purpose of checking the relative position. A substrate section and a method for checking and/or adjusting and/or correcting a relative position between the first inking unit cylinder and the forme cylinder are also disclosed.

Gravure printing unit and method for checking and/or adjusting and/or correcting a relative position

An inking system for inking an intaglio printing cylinder of an intaglio printing press is designed to perform a selective transfer of ink to one or more intaglio printing mediums by way of a selective inking cylinder provided in at least one device. The selective inking cylinder carries a selective inking plate that receives ink supplied by an associated inking unit. The selective inking plate comprises a coating that is selectively structured to exhibit ink-repellent portions and perform selective transfer of ink at locations corresponding to engraved areas of the one or more intaglio printing mediums that are to be inked with the ink supplied by the associated inking unit. The selective transfer of ink is performed indirectly from the selective inking cylinder to the one or more intaglio printing mediums via an ink collecting cylinder and/or via a chablon cylinder carrying a chablon plate.

Inking system for inking an intaglio printing cylinder of an intaglio printing press, intaglio printing press comprising the same, and process of inking such an intaglio printing cylinder

There is described a numbering device () for carrying out numbering in sheet-fed or web-fed numbering presses, the numbering device () comprising a numbering unit () with rotatable numbering wheels () carrying alpha-numerical symbols thereon, which numbering wheels () are disposed next to each other and rotate about a common rotation axis (), the numbering device () further comprising electro-mechanical actuation means for setting the position of the numbering wheels (). The electro-mechanical actuation means are entirely located within the numbering device () and are mechanically autonomous, the electro-mechanical actuation means comprising a plurality of independent driving means (-*) for actuating a corresponding plurality of the numbering wheels.

Numbering device for typographic numbering

There is described an intaglio printing press (*) comprising a plate cylinder () carrying one or more intaglio printing plates, the plate cylinder () receiving ink from an inking system (*) having a plurality of chablon cylinders (*) transferring ink directly or indirectly onto the plate cylinder (), the intaglio printing press (*) comprising an adjustment system acting on the chablon cylinders (*) in order to compensate elongation of the one or more intaglio printing plates. The adjustment system comprises, for each chablon cylinder (*), an adjustable drive unit, which adjustable drive unit () is interposed between the chablon cylinder (*) acting as a rotating output body of the adjustable drive unit () and a driving gear () acting as a rotating input body of the adjustable drive unit (). The adjustable drive unit () is designed to allow selected adjustment of a rotational speed of the chablon cylinder (*) with respect to a rotational speed of the driving gear (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the chablon cylinder (*) is adjusted over each revolution of the chablon cylinder (*) by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). In a non-adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), the adjustment motor () is inoperative and driving into rotation of the chablon cylinder (*) is performed exclusively mechanically via the adjustable drive unit (), the chablon cylinder (*) rotating at a same rotational speed as the driving gear ().

Intaglio printing press

There is described an intaglio printing press (*) comprising an intaglio cylinder () and an ink wiping system () with a rotating wiping roller assembly () contacting a circumference of the intaglio cylinder () for wiping excess ink from the surface of the intaglio cylinder (), a rotational speed of the wiping cylinder being adjustable with respect to a rotational speed of the intaglio cylinder (). The intaglio printing press (*) comprises an adjustable drive unit (), which adjustable drive unit () is interposed between the wiping roller assembly () acting as a rotating output body of the adjustable drive unit () and a driving gear () coupled to the intaglio cylinder () and acting as a rotating input body of the adjustable drive unit (). The adjustable drive unit () is designed to allow selected adjustment of a rotational speed of the wiping roller assembly () with respect to a rotational speed of the driving gear (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the wiping roller assembly () is adjusted by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). In a non-adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), the adjustment motor () is inoperative and driving into rotation of the wiping roller assembly () is performed exclusively mechanically via the adjustable drive unit (), the wiping roller assembly () rotating at a defined rotational speed with respect to the rotational speed of the intaglio cylinder ().

There is described an ink wiping system (&#x2033;) of an intaglio printing press comprising a wiping tank () and a rotatable wiping roller assembly (*) supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for wiping excess ink from the surface of a rotatable intaglio printing cylinder () of the intaglio printing press. The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) comprises a wiping roller retracting device () which forms an integral part of the ink wiping system (&#x2033;) and is adapted to be coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*) to move the wiping roller assembly (*) between a working position (W) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for cooperation with the intaglio printing cylinder () and a parking position (P) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is retracted out of the wiping tank () and away from the intaglio printing cylinder (). In the working position (W) of the wiping roller assembly (*), the wiping roller retracting device () is coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*). The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) further includes, at the parking position (P), a storage section () adapted to receive the wiping roller assembly (*) which is retracted by the wiping roller retracting device ().

Ink wiping system of an intaglio printing press and intaglio printing press comprising the same

There is described a device and method for magnetically transferring indicia to a coating composition, such as an ink or varnish, applied to at least a part of the surface of a substrate, the coating composition comprising at least one type of magnetic or magnetizable particles. The device comprises a body subjected to a magnetic field generated by appropriate electromagnetic means, which body carries determined indicia in the form of engravings on a surface of the body, which engravings influence orientation of field lines of the magnetic field. The body comprises at least one layer of material of high magnetic permeability in which the engravings are formed. In unengraved regions of the layer of material of high magnetic permeability, the field lines of the magnetic field extend substantially parallel to the surface of the body inside said layer of material of high magnetic permeability.

There is described a numbering system for carrying out numbering in a printing press comprising a numbering cylinder, a rotatable shaft defining a rotation axis, at least one supporting disc mounted on the rotatable shaft for rotation therewith, the supporting disc comprising a peripheral mounting ring for mounting of at least one numbering device () on a periphery of the supporting disc, which numbering device () is secured to the peripheral mounting ring () by means of a clamping mechanism. The peripheral mounting ring () has a T-shaped cross-section defining a pair of annular mounting grooves () on each side of the peripheral mounting ring (). The numbering device () comprises clamping elements () on each side of the numbering device () which are adapted to cooperate with the annular mounting grooves () for securing the numbering device () onto the peripheral mounting ring (). The clamping elements () are preferably spring-loaded clamping elements.
