A composite polymer composition comprising partially crystallized carbon black. The composition exhibits superior thermal transfer properties in plastic formulations. The polymer precursor exhibits excellent rheology when compared to similar compositions comprising traditional carbon blacks. The composite polymers provide for higher loading of more thermally conductive carbon blacks in a variety of composite polymer compositions.

Thermally conductive polymer compositions containing carbon black

A method of producing a thermoplastic elastomer includes providing a polyether composition comprising at least a first diol terminated polyether having a number average molecular weight of 400-6000 and up to 15 wt % of fumed silica having C1-C8 alkylsilyl groups or acrylate or methacrylate ester groups at its surface, combining the polyether composition with optional additional first polyether and either a) at least one dicarboxylic acid and at least one organic diol having a molecular weight less than 250 or b) at least one dicarboxylate terminated polyamide, to form a prepolymer composition, and allowing the prepolymer composition to polymerize to form a thermoplastic elastomer.

Method of producing thermoplastic elastomers and polymer composite obtained thereby

A masterbatch for pressure pipe applications is disclosed. The masterbatch includes carbon black in a concentration that is in excess of 40 weight percent (wt %) of the masterbatch, and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) carrier resin in a concentration that is in the range of 40 to 60 wt % of the masterbatch and has a melt flow index above 100 g/10 min at 2.16 kg/190&#xb0; C. and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) that is less than 100000. The masterbatch may further include one or more additives (e.g., lubricant and/or an anti-oxidant). In some embodiments, microdispersion of carbon black in the masterbatch is rated less than 3 (according to ISO 18553). In one specific case, 98% or more of observed carbon black agglomerates are less than 30 microns. The masterbatch may be included, for example, in a pressure pipe compound where it is diluted with a base polymer.

Polymer compositions, which are particularly useful in automotive applications, are described. The polymer composition contain at least one polymer and at least one carbon black having an STSA (statistical thickness surface area) of from about 10 to about 200 m/g, an INo of from about 15 to about 250 mg/g, a tinting strength about 130% or less, a DBPA of from about 20 to about 450 cc/100 g, a CDBP of from about 20 to about 400 cc/100 g, a ratio of INo to STSA of from about 0.4 to about 2.5, a particle size of from about 14 to about 250 nm, and a % volatiles of less than about 5.0%. Articles for automotive applications and other applications, as well as a method for electrostatically painting an article are also disclosed.

Conductive polymer blends with finely divided conductive material selectively localized in continuous polymer phase or continuous interface

An electrically conductive polyacetal composition having improved toughness and flexibility, as well as good fluidity and processability. The composition includes an oxymethylene polymer, an elastomeric polyurethane, and an electrically conductive carbon black having a lower structure level (DBP absorption) and larger particle size (lower surface area) than conductive carbon blacks heretofore used in these compositions. The composition includes between about 65 and about 85 percent, by weight, of the oxymethylene polymer, between about 10 and about 20 percent, by weight, of the electrically conductive carbon black, and between about 10 and about 20 percent, by weight, of the elastomeric polyurethane. The electrically conductive carbon black has a surface area BET (N.sub.2) of between about 40 and about 100 m.sup.2 /g, and a pore volume, DBP absorption, of between about 150 and about 350 ml/100g. The electrically conductive carbon black used in the present compositions is more easily dispersed in the composition polymers and lessens any increase in melt viscosity during compounding.
