Polypropylene compositions

Fibers can include a polypropylene composition, which can include a metallocene random copolymer of propylene and a comonomer that is an alpha-olefin different from propylene. The metallocene random copolymer can have a comonomer content of from 1.2 wt % to 1.8 wt %, a molecular weight distribution of at least 1.0 and of at most 4.0 obtained without thermal or chemical degradation, and a melting temperature Tof at most 140° C. A nonwoven can include the fibers, and a laminate can include the nonwoven. The fibers can be produced by polymerizing the propylene and comonomer in presence of a metallocene-based polymerization catalyst to obtain the metallocene random copolymer. The polypropylene composition can be melt-extruded to obtain a molten polypropylene stream, which can be extruded from capillaries of a spinneret to obtain filaments. A diameter of the filaments can be rapidly reduced to obtain a final diameter.

Process for the production of fibers

The present invention relates to a polyethylene resin suitable for preparing moulded articles, such as caps and closures. The invention provides in particular a polyethylene resin comprising at least two polyethylene fractions A and B, wherein said polyethylene resin has a melt index (MI2), of at least 3.0 g/10 min to at most 5.5 g/10 min as measured according to ISO 1133, condition D, at 190&#xb0; C. and under a load of 2.16 kg, and a density of at least 0.955 g/cmto at most 0.965 g/cmas measured according to ISO 1183 at 23&#xb0; C., and a molecular weight distribution M/Mwhich is at most 7.0, as determined by gel permeation chromatography, with Mbeing the weight-average molecular weight and Mbeing the number-average molecular weight; and wherein said polyethylene fraction A has a high load melt index (HLMI), as measured according to ISO 1133:1997 condition G at 190&#xb0; C. and under a load of 21.6 kg, of at least 10.5 and a melt index (MI2) of at least 0.5 g/10 min to at most 1.5 g/10 min as measured according to ISO 1133, condition D, at 190&#xb0; C. and under a load of 2.16 kg. The invention further relates to a process for preparing said polyethylene resin, to a cap or closure comprising said polyethylene, and to a process for producing such a cap or closure.

High purity polypropylenes and polypropylene compositions for molding

The present invention relates to a polypropylene composition comprising: a first polypropylene homopolymer or random copolymer (PPR1) having a comonomer content lower than the comonomer content of the second polypropylene, a second polypropylene (PPR2) which is a random copolymer of propylene and of the comonomer; said comonomer being an alpha-olefin different from propylene, the melting temperature of the polypropylene composition (T(PPR)) being defined as T(PPR)&#x3e;165&#x2212;6.9*[total comonomer content]&#x2212;8.4*[comonomer content of the first polypropylene], the difference between the melting temperature and the crystallization temperature of the polypropylene composition ranges from 27 and 33, and a xylene soluble fraction (XS) at 23&#xb0; C. of not more than 1.5 wt. %. The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said polypropylene composition. The present invention further relates to the use of said polypropylene composition for producing films or moulded articles.

Bimodal polypropylene and process for the preparation thereof

Propylene homopolymers having a melt flow index in the range from 3.0 dg/min to 8.0 dg/min can be particularly suited for high-tenacity fibers and yarns and nonwovens. The propylene homopolymers can be produced by a process that can include polymerizing propylene in presence of a Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalyst, an aluminum alkyl, hydrogen and an optional external donor.

Propylene polymers having a melt flow index in the range from 3.0 dg/min to 8.0 dg/min can be particularly suited for high-tenacity fibers and yarns and nonwovens. The present invention relates to fibers, particularly to as-spun fibers, having improved properties, in particular improved bonding performance and mechanical properties. In particular, the present invention relates to fibers comprising a metallocene random copolymer of propylene and one or more comonomers, said metallocene random copolymer having a broader molecular weight distribution. The present invention further relates to nonwovens comprising such fibers and to a process for producing such fibers and nonwovens. The fibers and the nonwovens of the present invention are characterized by improved properties, in particular improved bonding performance and mechanical properties, when compared to the prior art fibers and nonwovens.

The present invention concerns heterophasic propylene copolymers, comprising a propylene homopolymer (PPH) and an ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR), having a very broad molecular weight distribution, a well-defined total ethylene content and a specific intrinsic viscosities of the ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR). The invention further concerns the process to produce such heterophasic propylene copolymers. The heterophasic propylene copolymers of the present invention are particularly suited for pails, pallets, IBCs and crates. In particular, the heterophasic propylene copolymers of the present invention are characterized by an improved resistance to creep.

A high-density polyethylene (HDPE) can be adapted for the manufacture of caps and closures. The caps and closures can be used as screw-on caps for carbonated or still drinks. The high-density polyethylene can have a density of at least 940 kg/mand of at most 970 kg/m, and a high load melt index HLMI of at least 35 dg/min and of at most 180 dg/min. The high-density polyethylene can include a first polyethylene fraction and a second polyethylene fraction. The first polyethylene fraction can have a density of at least 920 kg/mand of at most 945 kg/m, and a melt index HL275 of at least 3 dg/min and of at most 12 dg/min. The second polyethylene fraction can have a density of at least 960 kg/mand of at most 980 kg/m.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of propylene polymers in the presence of a blend of a first Ziegler-Natta catalyst, which comprises a titanium compound having at least one titanium-halogen bond and a diether compound as internal electron donor, and a second Ziegler-Natta catalyst, which comprises a titanium compound having at least one titanium-halogen bond and a succinate compound as internal electron donor.
