Apparatus and methods for assessing contamination of formation fluid. A downhole sampling tool is operated to draw fluid from a subterranean formation into a chamber of the downhole sampling tool. The downhole sampling tool is then operated to discharge the fluid from the chamber while monitoring pressure of the fluid and volume of the chamber. Contamination of the discharged fluid is assessed based on the monitored fluid pressure and the monitored chamber volume.

Fluid identification via pressure

A downhole tool for conveyance within a wellbore extending into a subterranean formation. The downhole tool comprises a moveable member comprising a first surface defining a moveable boundary of a first chamber, and a second surface defining a moveable boundary of a second chamber. The downhole tool further comprises hydraulic circuitry selectively operable to establish reciprocating motion of the moveable member by exposing the first chamber to an alternating one of a first pressure and a second pressure that is substantially less than the first pressure.

Differential pressure mover

The techniques herein relate to a pressure compensation system for a sensor in a wellbore having a wellbore fluid therein. The system includes a downhole tool () and at least one pressure compensator () positionable therein. The pressure compensator includes a first compensating fluid section having a first compensating fluid () therein, a first pressure compensation section having a first pressure regulation device () for adjusting a compensation pressure of the first compensating fluid based on a wellbore pressure of the wellbore fluid, at least one second compensating fluid section having a second compensating fluid () therein, and at least one second pressure compensation section having a second pressure regulation device () for adjusting a sensor pressure of the second compensating fluid based on the compensation pressure of the first compensating fluid.

Downhole pressure compensator and method of same

Techniques for determining at least one downhole parameter of a wellsite are provided. A sensor apparatus is operatively connectable to a downhole tool deployable into a borehole of the wellsite, the downhole tool having a conduit system for receiving downhole fluid. The sensor apparatus has a housing, at least one gauge, a gauge carrying body positionable in the housing for receiving the gauge, and a flowline extending through the gauge carrying body for operatively connecting the conduit system to the gauge whereby parameters of the downhole fluid are measured. The gauge has at least one pressure sensor and at least one temperature sensor. The gauge carrying body has a pressure resistant block and a thermal absorber positionable about the gauge.
