In a combined process for the storage and production of hydrogen from a hydrogen reserve containing magnesium in the free or combined state, said process consisting of storing the hydrogen in the supply, decomposing the supply to produce hydrogen, and reconstituting the supply of hydrogenation; the use of a dope comprising two elements in the free or combined state selected from the group consisting of cerium, nickel, titanium and molybdenum. Said process may be applied to hydrogen reserves used to fuel internal-combustion engines and for similar applications.

Combined hydrogen storage and production process

The preparation of hydrogen reserves by mixing magnesium with at least one other appropriate element, compacting the mixture obtained, and hydrogenating it. Such additional element includes at least one element selected from the group consisting of group IIIB, including the rare earths, and groups IVB, VIB, VIIB, VIII, and IA of the periodic table. In particular, the mixture is subjected to a heat treatment between the compacting and hydrogenation steps. Such reserves prepared have reversible capacities even at moderate temperatures.

Process for the preparation of a hydrogen reserve

Method of utilizing lithium borohydride for the storage and generation of hydrogen where the lithium borohydride is thermally decomposed to generate hydrogen and the remaining decomposition products (contaning boron in free or combined form and lithium in free or combined form) are hydrogenated from a separate source of hydrogen so as to reconstitute at least partially the composition as a hydrogen reserve. A further embodiment contemplates the utilization of aluminum in the composition which lowers the reconstitution temperature and increases the hydrogen capacity of the hydrogen reserve.

Production of hydrogen

Catalysts whose carrier is formed of an intimate mixture of aluminum oxide and at least one oxide of a second metal from groups VIB and VIII of the periodic table of the elements. The active phase of these catalysts comprises at least one metal from groups III to VIII of the periodic table. Also preparation of such catalysts by impregnation of a carrier with a solution containing ions of the metal of the active phase, said impregnation being followed by drying and calcination, the carrier used having been prepared by coprecipitation in the form of a gel from aqueous and/or organic solutions of the metals of which it is made up, coprecipitation being followed by drying and impregnation. Also hydrosulfurization and other uses for these catalysts.

Catalyst and a process for their preparation

Catalyst carriers being an intimate mixture of aluminum oxide and at least one oxide of a second metal from groups VIb and VIII of the periodic table of the elements; preparation process of said carriers by coprecipitation in the form of a gel from aqueous and/or organic solutions of aluminum and the second metal, followed by drying and calcination; and the use of these carriers in the making of catalysts, particularly for the conversion of hydrocarbon charges or desulfurization thereof.
