A contact seal assembly for a shaft of a gas turbine engine includes a seal runner adapted to be connected to the shaft and rotatable relative to a carbon ring. The seal runner includes concentric inner and outer annular portions radially spaced apart to define at least one internal fluid passage between the inner and outer annular portions of the seal runner.

Internally cooled seal runner

A reduction gear box is part of a gas turbine engine and includes a casing and reduction epicyclic gear stages within the casing. The reduction gear stages comprising at least an epicyclic array of gears meshing together with at least one planetary gear mounted for rotation on a gear carrier and a bearing associated therewith. A lubricating oil delivery system is provided within the casing, surrounding a portion of the gear carrier. The oil delivery system includes a conduit; a closed oil reservoir; a first metered opening communicating the conduit with the reservoir and a plurality of metered outlet openings communicating the reservoir with the gear carrier and the bearing such that the reservoir is filled with oil in normal flight operating conditions and the oil trapped in the reservoir is released to the carrier and bearing when a temporary drop in the oil system pressure occurs.

Lubrication oil system for a reduction gearbox

An epicyclic gear train includes a sun gear rotatable about a central axis, a concentric outer ring gear, and a plurality of gears mechanically intermediate the sun gear and the ring gear, and which are in meshing engagement therewith. An epicyclic carrier assembly comprises a gear support member and a coupling adapter. The gear support member is adapted to rotatably support the plurality of gears on axles between first and second axle ends. The gear support member has at least a first connecting member. The coupling adapter is disposed concentrically with the gear support member and has a second connecting member. The second connecting member is engaged with the first connecting member to structurally join the coupling adapter and the gear support member. The first and second connecting members are mounted to one another in a plane between the first and second axle ends.

Reduced twist carrier

An integrated roller bearing and fluid transfer sleeve adapted for supporting and transferring fluid to a rotating shaft in a gas turbine engine reduction gearbox. The integrated roller bearing and fluid transfer sleeve comprises a fluid transfer sleeve having a sleeve casing defining therein an annular fluid plenum open radially outwardly, and at least two spaced apart roller bearing assemblies each comprising an annular outer race integral with the sleeve casing and each assembly comprising a plurality of roller elements supported by the outer race. Each roller bearing assembly is disposed within the sleeve casing, one at each opposing end thereof, and the plurality of roller elements in each assembly define a first inner diameter substantially equal to an outer diameter of the rotating shaft adapted to be supported by the roller elements. The sleeve casing has an inner circumferential, axially extending surface, between the roller bearing assemblies, and defining a second inner diameter greater than the first inner diameter, such that an annular fluid leakage clearance can be formed between said inner circumferential surface of the sleeve casing and an outer circumferential surface of the rotating shaft. A plurality of apertures are defined in the sleeve casing to permit fluid flow from the annular fluid plenum to the fluid leakage clearance, whereby fluid, in the fluid leakage clearance is transferable to the roller elements and the rotating shaft.

Integrated oil transfer sleeve and bearing

A torque transfer assembly adapted for use in a planetary gear train is provided. The torque transfer assembly comprises generally a planetary carrier and a torque transfer coupling adapter. The planetary carrier is adapted to rotatably support the plurality of planet gears between a first and second planes. The planetary carrier also has a first connecting member extending therefrom. The torque transfer coupling adapter is disposed concentrically and rotatably with the planetary carrier, and has a central torque output element and a second connecting member extending from it. The second connecting member is adapted to be engaged with the first connecting member to structurally join the coupling adapter and the planetary carrier, the first and second connecting members being structurally joined together between the first and second planes.
