A system configured to increase height of a vertebral body. An implant includes plates each defining a bearing surface configured to be moved away from one another to expand the implant within the vertebral body. Supports are each coupled to one of the plates and include a reduced thickness portion defining a material web configured to plastically deform during expansion of the implant. The system includes an implant carrier with which an end element of the implant is removably coupled, and a rod configured to be translated relative to the implant carrier to cause expansion of the implant. An opposed portion may be coupled to the supports and configured to receive a longitudinal force to be moved relative to the end element. Second supports may be each coupled to the end element and one of the plates. Each of the second supports may plastically deform during expansion of the implant.

A system for attaching a piece of osteosynthesis equipment against a bone tissue includes at least a screw, and a screwdriver having a handle extended by a rod with an adapter to engage the screw. A portion of the guide member of the screwdriver protrudes in front of the end-piece of the screwdriver and extends along or around a portion of the screw to guide the screw in axial translation. The guide member has a front end forming an abutment of the screwdriver against the surface of the piece of osteosynthesis equipment on completion of a predefined depth of screwing of the screw into the bone tissue. The guide member can be set at a chosen length of extension, corresponding to a predefined depth of insertion of the screw. After insertion, the screw can be severed, and optionally fused with the piece of equipment to reinforce the locking of same.

The present invention relates to an injectable bone cement for filling bones with mechanical properties equivalent to those of vertebral spongy bone comprising 70 to 99 wt. % of an acrylic polymer combined with an inorganic type radiopaque compound and 1 to 30 wt. % of calibrated hydrophilic flexible solid particles, said calibrated hydrophilic flexible solid particles being chosen from gelatin, poly(glycerol sebacate) or a mixture thereof. A bone cement according to the invention is particularly intended for vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty or cementoplasty.

An osteosynthesis device that is both resorbable and radiopaque, produced using gradually degrading materials, includes at least one plate and a set of screws made of resorbable material, in which the plate consists of a composite mixture including i) a resorbable polymer or copolymer compound and ii) an inorganic filler that consists of at least one resorbable ceramic. The screws can be made of resorbable polymer, or of a composite mixture with at least one resorbable ceramic. The device is totally resorbable and radiopaque, and it offers a high level of safety, ensuring a strong and durable fixation of the screws to the plate and in the bone during the entire period needed for bone uniting.

The invention relates to a device for the injection of a bone cement. The invention comprises a container provided with one end including an outlet and a second end that receives a piston. The piston is moved by means of an injection screw that projects from the container body and engages with gripping means comprising injection screw rotation means that can self-lock depending on the pressure exerted inside the container body, said rotation means comprising a handle which is provided with a passage that receives the injection screw and which is hinged thereto by means of a pair of male/female disks. One disk is known as the drive disk and moves integrally with the rotation movements of the handle, while the other disk is known as the driven disk, said drive disk coming into contact with the driven disk in response to a compressive force exerted on the distal part of the injection screw.

Device for the injection of bone cement, comprising an overpressure locking system

The invention relates to a system for preparing a polymerized bone cement, including two components reacting with each other when they are mixed to form a solid polymer material. The first component may include a biocompatible acrylic polymer and an initiator capable of initiating a polymerization reaction. The second component may include a monomer capable of dissolving an acrylic polymer, a polymerization activator and a polymerization inhibitor, system in which the second component also includes a biocompatible acrylic polymer dissolved in said monomer, identical or different from the polymer of the first component with an average molar mass greater than 1,000,000 g/mol and a residual initiator content of less than 0.1% to form a gel with determined viscosity. Another object of the invention is a composition designed to constitute the second component of as system used to prepare such cement.

Two-component system for bone cement

A ready-for-use polymer cement spacer device for the replacement of a permanent joint prosthesis during a two-stage replacement, includes a shank includes for attachment for placing to the supporting bone and a head in the joint region. The spacer device includes two complementary members incorporating rigid members for assembly between them, the first member being loaded with a first active substance and the second member being loaded with a second active substance. The first and second active substances are preferably antibiotics, selected from gentamycin, trobamycin, vancomycin, erythromycin, fucidin, tetracycline or other suitable antibiotics. The temporary joint implant maintains a suitable space for the time necessary for the operation of replacing a permanent prosthesis to prevent tissues from occupying the space released by removal of the permanent prosthesis and ensures effective treatment of resistant infections by local treatment of the joint area through at least two different active substances.

A fluid cement for medical use for bone reconstruction, in particular for filling the vertebral body, and a binary composition which is intended for the preparation of such a cement. A device for conditioning the binary composition, and a method of preparing a bone cement from a binary composition. The fluid cement according to the invention comprises: a) approximately 70% to 85% by weight of a polymer comprising a polymethylmethacrylate and a methylmethacrylate monomer, and b) approximately from 15 to 30% by weight of a radio-opaque composition. Preferably, the radio-opaque composition comprises a radio-opacifier, such as a barium sulphate and zirconium dioxide, in a mixture with a calcium phosphate, for example hydroxyapatite.

Polymer cement for percutaneous vertebroplasty

The invention provides a fluid cement for medical use for bone reconstruction, in particular for filling the vertebral body, and a binary composition which is intended for the preparation of such a cement. The invention also provides a device for conditioning the binary composition, and a method of preparing a bone cement from a binary composition. The fluid cement according to the invention comprises: a) approximately 60% to 85% by weight of a polymer comprising a polymethylmethacrylate and a methylmethacrylate monomer and b) approximately from 15 to 40% by weight of a radio-opaque composition. Preferably, the radio-opaque composition comprises a radio-opacifier, such as barium sulfate and zirconium dioxide, in a mixture with a calcium phosphate, for example apatite hydroxide.
