Apparatus for processing card tickets includes a printing and/or encoding module (1), having means for driving a ticket along a path internal to the module (1) in order to pass it through a ticket print station and, where appropriate, a ticket encoding station (160), and then to a ticket outlet between two wheels (150, 193). A second module (2) is provided, similar to the first, and coupling means (3) are provided between the respective outlets from the two modules (1, 2) and an outlet receptacle (370) in order to take tickets from one or other or both of the modules (1,2) and stack them in the receptacle (370).

Apparatus for processing vouchers includes a drive system suitable for causing a magnetic track on a voucher to pass over a magnetic head (170) which is connected to circuits for controlling writing and including a data transfer unit (22) and a data modulator (23). The stepper motor (185) has at least five phases, and the same clock (21) is used to control the stepper motor (185), the transfer of data from said unit (22), and the data modulator (23) in order to establish control transitions which are applied to the magnetic head.

A card ticket, e.g. for travel, is taken from a stack of blanks (101) which it leaves via two wheels (111, 112) travelling along an axis (113) which does not coincide with the common tangent to two touching wheels (135, 175) which receive the ticket taken from the stack. Thus, once the ticket has completely left the stack unit from which it is taken, it may be reversed partially or totally back out between the receiving wheels (135, 175) without re-engaging the stack unit. The same arrangement can be used at the other end of the internal path to receive a ticket at wheels (163, 203). These wheels can both output a ticket towards a user (arrow F3) and receive a ticket from a user for inspection (arrow F4). Apparatus of this nature can thus create new tickets, inspect unused tickets and return them, and inspect used tickets, cancel them and retain them (arrow F5).

Apparatus for printing and inspecting card tickets

The printer is for printing on a narrow print-receiving medium such as a ticket (T) which passes lengthwise through the printer. The printer includes an anvil or platen which is at least partially constituted by a cylindrical roller (150) capable of rotating about its own axis (322) in such a manner that its cylindrical surface accompanies the movement of the narrow medium substantially without slipping. A dot-matrix print head is movable in translation transversely to the motion of the medium so as to print thereon against a generator line of the roller. The improvement lies in the printer further including a unitary guide assembly (301, 302, 307, 313) for guiding both rotation of the roller and translation of the print head.
