The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for performing out-of-band discovery of service definitions to enable a central computing device to interact with one or more peripheral devices. For example, systems disclosed herein include retrieving a hash value for a peripheral device representative of a set of service attributes associated with the peripheral device. Based on the hash value, the systems disclosed herein can identify a service database entry including service definitions that enable the central computing device to interact with the peripheral devices. Using the service definitions, the central computing device can interact with any peripheral device that shares the same set of service attributes as the peripheral device.

Out-of-band service discovery for peripheral devices

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for publishing, discovering, connecting with and activating services in a peer-to-peer environment. Services available in association with a first computing device are determined and encoded with instructions for accessing and understanding such services via their respective activation protocols. The encoded services are published via a publication protocol such that they are discoverable by at least a second computing device, irrespective of whether such services may be activated via the publication protocol. The second computing device discovers the available services via the publication protocol and accesses and understands the instructions associated with a desired service. Upon receipt of a request from the second computing device, via the activation protocol, to activate the requested service, the requested service is activated by the first computing device.

Controlling service discovery and activation among peers

The disclosure herein describes coupling a stylus and a computing device. Based on a tip of a stylus being brought proximate to a display of a computing device configured to communicate in accordance with a wireless protocol, the computing device is configured to receive a stylus wireless protocol identifier and transmit a wireless protocol identifier of the computing device and one or more security keys to the stylus via a communication channel in response, whereby the stylus and computing device are coupled. Based on receiving a signal associated with user input from the coupled stylus using the wireless protocol, the computing device performs an operation based on the signal. The described 'loose coupling' enables streamlined use of styluses with compatible computing devices without requiring full pairing.

Coupling a pen device to a companion device based on pen proximity

The description relates to device pairing. One example can involve a computing device (e.g., companion device) and a stylus. The companion device can have a display and be configured to communicate in accordance with a wireless protocol. The stylus can be configured to transmit proximity information to the computing device when a user brings a tip of the stylus proximate to the display and be configured to supply wireless protocol identification information with the proximity information. The computing device can be configured to pair with the stylus over the wireless protocol using the wireless protocol identification information without requiring any additional action from the user on the computing device or the stylus.

Automatic device pairing

An example system for wirelessly providing operating system specific features includes memory and a processor configured to send a device identifier (DID) request to a remote host device via a wireless connection. The processor is to also receive remote host information from the remote host device via the wireless connection. Additionally, the processor is to detect an operating system of the host remote device based on the received remote host information. The processor is to further modify an operation of the system based on the detected operating system of the remote host device. The processor is to then provide, via the wireless connection, an operating system specific feature based on the detected operating system of the remote host device.

Wirelessly providing operating system specific features

Examples of the disclosure enable managing a user account, such that a peripheral device is configured to interact with one or more user devices associated with the user account. In some examples, a device identity associated with the peripheral device is identified, and it is determined whether the device identity is associated with a user account. Upon determining that the device identity is associated with the user account, the peripheral device is paired with a user device associated with the user account without manually pairing the peripheral device with the user device. Examples of the disclosure enable the peripheral device to interact with one or more user devices in an efficient, user-friendly manner.

Cloud-based cross-device digital pen pairing

Electronic devices described herein are configured to use a beaconing capability to enable responders to locate a user of the electronic device. The beacon payload includes an incident identifier, among other data, that enables responders to identify the specific electronic device that was used to place the emergency call. The beacon payload is dynamically updated with refreshed data to enable responders to locate the user of the electronic device that may potentially be in transit from one location to another, and to adapt to changing circumstances associated with the emergency situation.

A device includes a reset resistant store and a trusted key service. The reset resistant store maintains data across various different device reset or data invalidation operations. The trusted key service maintains, for each of one or more operating systems that run on the device from a boot configuration, an encrypted key associated with the boot configuration. The device also has a master key that is specific to the device. Each of the keys associated with a boot configuration is encrypted using the master key. When booting the device, the boot configuration being run on the device is identified, and the key associated with that boot configuration is obtained (e.g., from the reset resistant store or the encrypted key vault). The master key is used to decrypt the obtained key, and the obtained key is used to decrypt secrets associated with the operating system run from the boot configuration.

Maintaining operating system secrets across resets

The description relates to enhancing user experience with devices, such as host and peripheral devices. One example relates to devices that can automatically power down when packaged for shipping and power up when opened by the user. Another example allows automatic, secure pairing between sets of host and peripheral devices without any affirmative user actions.

Enhancing user experience relative to peripheral devices

A multi-purpose universal support is disclosed that can be configured to support multiple pipes, pipe junctions, vertical strut channels, horizontal strut channels, and thread rods. The disclosed support system allows for quicker installation, easy height adjustments, and a fewer supports than previously known supports.

A method on a computing system for associating an output of a coupled peripheral device to an input of the peripheral device is provided. A computing system configured to be coupled to a peripheral device comprising an input and an associated output is provided. The computing system comprises an input logical layer configured to receive descriptor configuration information from the peripheral device and build interface sets including attributes of the input of the peripheral device and the associated output. The input logical layer uses the interface sets to select and set attributes of the output of the peripheral device.

System method for associating an application runnng on computing system by selectively altering an attribute of the input and output of connected peripheral device

Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and computer systems for alerting a user that an operating system has entered a secure mode is provided. Initially, inputs are received at an operating system residing in a default mode. Typically, the default mode allows applications running on the operating system to access the inputs. If the inputs are identified as a call to perform a protected operation, the operating system is transitioned from the default mode to the secure mode. Typically, the secure mode restricts the applications from intercepting the inputs. The transition to the secure mode is automatically communicated to the user via an indicator device. Generally, automatic communication includes providing a message from the operating system to the indicator device over a secure pathway that triggers the indicator device to generate a user-perceivable output. Accordingly, the operating system exerts exclusive control over the operation of the indicator device.

In one or more implementations, a computing device receives an indication that a device is attempting to pair with the computing device. If a user is not currently authenticated with respect to the computing device, inputs received by the device are restricted from being used by the computing device for uses other than authenticating the user.
