A method of unlocking a mobile terminal and a mobile terminal is disclosed. The mobile terminal is initially locked to the services of a mobile services provider. The mobile services provider transmits to a predefined telephone number associated with a service provider other than the mobile services provider, via the mobile services provider, a request for unlocking information. The request is transparent to the mobile services provider. If the request is approved, the mobile terminal receives the unlocking information. Using the received unlocking information, the mobile terminal unlocks itself so that it is no longer locked to the services of the mobile services provider. If the request is not approved, the mobile terminal receives and displays a message indicating that the request is not approved.

Method and apparatus for unlocking a mobile telephone type wireless communication terminal

In a method of unlocking mobile telephones, in particular one using the 'SIM-LOCK' method, the user of the telephone submits an unlocking request directly to the manufacturer of the telephone and the manufacturer sends unlocking information to the telephone after verifying with the operator that the user is entitled to unlocking. The invention relates to identifying callers in a terminal of a telephone communications network in which the caller's number is transmitted by the network at the time of an incoming call. The invention proposes providing the terminal with an agent which, on or after receiving a caller's number, selects at least one external server likely to be able to provide identity information; the agent then uses a request file and the caller's number to prepare a request whose argument is the caller's number and whose destination is the server. The request is sent to the server to obtain the information. In the absence of a result, the agent can send a plurality of requests in succession.
