A method for detecting a structural fault of an electric motor. The method includes: (i) acquiring a measurement signal of a physical parameter representative of the rotation of the electric motor, (ii) obtaining the high frequency component of the measurement signal, resulting in a corrected signal, (iii) applying a set of band-pass filters to the corrected signal resulting in a set of filtered corrected signals, (iv) determining a stator frequency and a rotor frequency, (v) computing a frequency signature vector, (vi) computing a temporal symptom vector from the frequency signature vector and the set of filtered corrected signals, and (vii) detecting a structural fault of the electric motor from the determined temporal symptom vector and from a classifier model.

Examples include a method of control implemented in a variable speed drive for controlling an electric motor during backspin, wherein the method includes: determining, by the variable speed drive, a mechanical power value occurring at a backspin speed and an estimated load torque; determining, by the variable speed drive, a specific electrical losses profile occurring at a motor flux level, wherein the specific electrical losses profile coincides with the mechanical power value; determining, by the variable speed drive, a flux reference and a speed reference to be applied to the motor to coincide with the specific electrical losses profile; and controlling, by the variable speed drive, the backspin speed of the motor to maintain the coincidence with the specific electrical losses profile.

Backspinning motor control

A method identifies magnetic saturation parameters of an asynchronous electric motor. The method consists in a monitoring and identification sequence including one or several iterations. The method includes applying at the input of the control law of a reference voltage or a reference flux trajectory or a reference range in order to obtain a magnetization current, building a real profile of magnetic saturation including estimate magnetization flux and measures magnetization current, and determining magnetic saturation parameters corresponding to the real profile already obtained.
