A software container image that includes components dependent on a first computer instruction set architecture (ISA) is ported to enable a container to execute using the container image on a computer having a second ISA different from the first. Porting the container image entails replacing components of the container image not compatible with the second ISA with equivalent components compatible with the second ISA. The porting is performed, in some instances, dynamically as part of running a container with the container image on a computer implementing the second ISA.

A method, system, computer program product, and computer program storage device for transforming a high-level policy associated with a high layer to a low-level policy associated with a low layer. Mapping between high-level objects in a high layer and low-level objects in a low layer is derived by an automated discovery tool. The high-level policy is mapped to the low-level policy according to the mapping (e.g., by substituting the high-level objects with the low-level objects and by performing a syntax transformation). In one embodiment, a low-level policy is transformed to a high-level policy according to the mapping. As exemplary embodiments, policy transformations in traffic shaping and data retention are disclosed.

The method includes storing multiple types of information, and includes: a first stage of storing information representative of a content of a persistent memory entity at a certain point in time; and a second stage of storing information representative of a state of a virtual machine at the certain point in time; and recovering a system that associates between the first stage of storing information and the second stage of storing information.

In one application, a dynamically changing federated repository is searchable using a system of local and merged master indices, wherein query results are presented as virtual directory paths that are semantically organized.

Dynamically during run-time, an object is determined to be local to a particular thread and can be accessed solely by that thread, whereby a computing overhead associated with that object may be reduced. Likewise, cache locality may be optimized in respect of objects that are determined to be global so as to avoid putting them in the same cache line, whilst thread-local objects are preferably stored in a cache line associated with that thread.

A method for performing remote calls between source and target computing machines includes running a program thread on the source machine which invokes a remote call to the target machine. The remote call is transmitted to the target machine, the call including an identifier associated with the program thread. A response to the remote call is received from the target machine, the response including the identifier, whereby the response is returned to the program thread on the source machine using the identifier.

A group communication system (GCS), for use within a group of clustered computing nodes, provides a flexible group membership model. Flexible group members are defined generally as physical computing entities (such as computing nodes or other devices) or logical computing entities that take part in a distributed application. Such logical entities may include substantially any combination of processes, threads and callback functions. Logical entities that are members in the group may also be objects, such as files, that at least at some times during their existence have no active processes or threads. A single member may include multiple simultaneous processes.

A data structure and associated mechanism for implementing object oriented programming language, comprising at least two code blocks for at least one method of an object of a specified class, each of the code blocks containing a different implementation of the at least one method. An access mechanism is provided for accessing a desired code block at run-time on a per object instance basis so as to allow selection of a desired implementation of the at least one method without requiring instantiation of an object of a different class. The selection of which implementation to invoke is integrated into an existing invocation method of the language and is thus transparent to a calling application invoking the method.
