A secondary air system (SAS) of an aircraft engine that produces secondary airflow from a source of secondary air includes a hollow strut and one or more SAS feed pipes upstream thereof. The hollow strut extends radially through the main gas path of the engine and defines therein a strut conduit extending between a strut inlet and a strut outlet at opposite ends of the hollow strut. The strut outlet is in fluid flow communication with a buffer cavity for feeding the secondary airflow to the engine core. The SAS feed pipe includes an inlet receiving the secondary airflow from the source of secondary air, and an outlet in fluid flow communication with the strut inlet to feed the secondary airflow into the strut conduit. The SAS feed pipe has a sonic orifice therein, between the inlet and the outlet thereof.

A tangential on-board injector (TOBI), comprising: a body defining an annular passageway to receive cooling air, the TOBI defining a plurality of discharge nozzles; a rotating component mounted for rotation relative to the body about an axis of rotation; a seal extending between the body and the rotating component; a plurality of vanes circumferentially distributed about the axis of rotation and located downstream of the plurality of discharge nozzles relative to a flow of the cooling air circulating toward the seal from the plurality of discharge nozzles and upstream of the seal; and flow passages defined between the plurality of vanes, a flow passage of the flow passages extending along a passage axis, the passage axis having a tangential component at an outlet of the flow passage that is different than a tangential component of an exit flow axis of a nozzle of the plurality of discharge nozzles.

A tangential on-board injector (TOBI) having: a body defining an annular passageway, discharge nozzles; a rotating component configured to be mounted for rotation relative to the body about an axis of rotation; a seal extending between the body and the rotating component; and flow passages circumferentially distributed about the axis of rotation and in fluid communication with the nozzles and the seal, the flow passages located upstream of the seal relative to a flow of the cooling air circulating toward the seal from the plurality of discharge nozzles, each of the flow passages extending along a respective passage axis, the passage axis of at least one of the flow passages having a tangential component at an outlet of the at least one of the flow passages that is different than a tangential component of an exit flow axis of at least one of the plurality of discharge nozzles.

Systems and methods for regulating oil flow to an engine are described herein. An oil pressure target for the engine is determined based on one or more engine operating parameters. Oil flow to the engine is controlled based on the oil pressure target. Closed-loop feedback of oil pressure of the engine is obtained from at least one sensor during the controlling of the oil flow to the engine. A pressure difference between the oil pressure target and the closed-loop feedback of the oil pressure of the engine is determined. The oil flow to the engine is adjusted based on the pressure difference.

Method and system for regulating oil flow to an engine

A contact seal assembly for a shaft of a gas turbine engine includes a seal runner adapted to be connected to the shaft and rotatable relative to a carbon ring. The seal runner includes concentric inner and outer annular portions radially spaced apart to define at least one internal fluid passage between the inner and outer annular portions of the seal runner.

The method for testing the integrity of a seal of a cavity in an engine includes providing a sealed test tank external to the cavity, the test tank having an internal volume that is particularly selected, as described herein. A pressure differential is generated between the test tank and the cavity, by creating an initial test pressure within the test tank that is different than an ambient pressure inside the cavity. Gas flow between the test tank and the cavity is then permitted, and a change in pressure within the test tank is measured, as is a test time required for the pressure inside the test tank to reach a reference pressure. The measured test time is compared with a predetermined reference time, and the integrity of the seal may be confirmed when the test time is greater than or equal to the reference time.

The system comprises a color scaling device, receiving in use the hue signal, the color scaling device producing a plurality of color component signals, the plurality of color component signals being supplied as the output to the color light projector, and an intensity control device, receiving in use the intensity control signal, the intensity control device comprising a low frequency oscillator whose output is an intensity modulation signal for varying an intensity of the plurality of color component signals between a preset minimum and a preset maximum value, the oscillator having a frequency responsive to the at least one modulation frequency component F of the intensity control signal, the plurality of color component signals to control in use the projector. The projected light can have a relaxing visual effect.
