A device (D) is dedicated to controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine (M) including at least two cylinders (Ci), each equipped with at least one inlet valve (SA) and at least one injector (IJ), and of the so-called indirect and sequential fuel injection type. This device (D) includes detection elements (MD) designed to detect an injection event phasing error relative to reference angular positions specific to the various cylinders (Ci), and control elements (MC) designed to rephase, if a phasing error of a cylinder (Ci) is detected, the command to open the injector (IJ) of this cylinder (Ci) after closure of the inlet valve (SA).

Device for controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine, with improved rephasing of injection events

During the starting, a) the temperature (T) of the engine and the pressure (P) of the fuel delivered by said pressurizing means are monitored, b) if T is below a predetermined threshold temperature (T ), an engine starting mode is established in which the engine is started with fuel at high pressure as soon as the pressure (P) becomes higher than a predetermined threshold pressure (P ), and c) an engine starting mode is established where the engine is started using fuel at low pressure if T>T .

Control method for starting a direct injection internal combustion engine

The injectors ( ) allocated to the cylinders are supplied with fuel by a common injection train and their opening time is calculated and controlled by a computer. According to the invention, a) any possible overlap in the opening time of at least two injectors ( ) is detected, b) in the absence of an overlap, the fuel pressure in the train outside the opening time of the injector concerned is determined, c) if an overlap is present, the pressure of the fuel when the injector concerned is opened is determined and d) the measurement established is corrected according to a predetermined variation in the pressure of the fuel caused by the injector(s) opening.
