A system is disclosed for communicating with a plurality of network processors, one or more of the processors having a different operating environment, includes receiving an application programming interface (API) call from a user application, the API call including a call address identifying one or more of the network processors; and accessing a memory that identifies an appropriate form for the API call for each operating environment implemented by each network processor identified by the call address; and building one or more messages including the appropriate form for the API call for the operating environment of each of the network processors to receive any particular message.

Message formation and distribution in heterogeneous networks

A method of upgrading a program, used in a data processing device having a permanent memory, from a version n to a version n&plus;1, wherein, at any time, both the recent version and the previous version of the program are stored in a first and a second location of the memory. Each one of version n and version n&plus;1 of the program is using configuration data of format n and format n&plus;1, respectively, when it is used as a current version. The configuration data of format n are automatically stored into the memory when version n&plus;1 of the program is stored into the second location of memory.

Method of upgrading a program using associated configuration data

In a multicellular communications network system comprising base stations and a plurality of remote stations, a remote station listens for frames of information emitted by the different base or remote stations, in order to insert the network. The base stations and the remote stations comprise means for emitting the frames of information using a sequence of changing frequency hops of different operating frequencies. The remote station determines a set of 'n' operating frequencies (Fi), from which it sequentially listens for a fixed period of time equal to 1/n of the frequency hopping period (FH) of a base station. When a frame of information is received by the remote station during one of the fixed period, the information is collected and processed in order to select the base station for attachment.
