An information handling system may include an unsupported information handling resource that has not been qualified by a manufacturer of the information handling system for use with the information handling system. The system may execute a system update procedure configured to: download a vendor update package for the unsupported information handling resource; determine that the vendor update package requires an operating system different from a currently installed operating system of the information handling system; create a bootable medium comprising the operating system and the vendor update package; trigger a first reboot of the information handling system into the operating system of the bootable medium, wherein the bootable medium is configured to install the vendor update package; and trigger a second reboot of the information handling system into the currently installed operating system of the information handling system.

Updating firmware of unsupported devices

A server chassis includes a server, a chassis management controller, and a local interface card. The server includes a controller that is configured to provide a remote user with access to a controller communication portal of the server via a remote access controller graphical user interface, and to send a message from the controller communication portal to a chassis management controller. The chassis management controller is configured to receive the message, to determine that the message is for a local interface card, and to send the message to the local interface card. The local interface card is configured to display the message on a screen connected to the local interface card, to detect a communication request, to display a communication interface at the screen, to receive a reply message via the communication interface, and to send the reply message to the chassis management controller.

System and method for out-of-band communication between a remote user and a local user of a server

A remote management card is associated with a server and connected to a Network File System (NFS) server storing files. The remote management card is configured to locate a file or image on a network. The associated server my then access the files on the NFS server, facilitating the installation of an operating system or accessing another desired file.

A method to provide at least one of a scalable, a replaceable, and an upgradeable device via remote access solution virtual media includes emulating a physical plug-and-play universal serial bus device to a managed host server system as a virtual media device using firmware in a service processor and a virtual media engine of a remote access solution comprising a remote access card disposed in the managed host server system, the physical plug-and-play universal serial bus device disposed in the remote access card, proxying data communications between the physical plug-and-play universal serial bus device and the managed host server system through the service processor, and allowing remote access to the physical plug-and-play universal serial bus device by a remote management client using the firmware in the service processor and the virtual media engine via an out-of-band dedicated remote access card network interface card disposed in the remote access card.

Upgradeable persistent virtual storage

A system and method of emulating a network controller within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, an information handling system can include a host chipset operably coupled to a network interface controller of a first main circuit board, and a management controller operably coupled to the host chipset. The information handling system can also include an emulated network interface controller operable to be activated by the management controller. The information handling system can further include a communication bus coupled to the host chipset and the management controller. In one form, the communication bus is operable to activate a communication link between the host chipset and the emulated network interface controller.
