Various embodiments include an automobile network device that includes a descriptor sorting engine (DSE). The DSE may include a direct memory access (DMA) controller, a memory organized by channel clusters that each include a plurality of first-in first-out (FIFO) memories, a timer, and a time stamp (TS) sorting logic component. The DMA controller may be configured to pull timestamp-pointer pairs from packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, store the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories, trigger the TS sorting logic component to reorder the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories so that they are sorted in ascending order, use the sorted timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories to read the packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, and store the packet descriptors in a sorted descriptor ring memory.

Hardware based ethernet audio and video bridging (EAVB) packet scheduling

In an embodiment, an electronic device includes an integrated circuit (IC) having a plurality of power domains, a first regulator coupled to a given power domain, a second regulator coupled to the given power domain, and a switching circuit coupled between the first and second regulators and configured to control an amount of current drawn by the power domain from the first and/or second regulators. In another embodiment, a method includes controlling an impedance of a switching circuit to change an amount of current, the switching circuit coupled to a given power domain of an IC configured to operate in a first mode followed by a second mode, where the switching circuit is coupled to a first regulator configured to provide more power to the IC than a second regulator, and a transition period includes turning off the first regulator and turning on the second regulator.

Power gating techniques with smooth transition

A power management controller (PMC) for resetting various voltage domains of an integrated circuit (IC) generates and transmits first and second voltage domain input signals to first and second voltage domains, respectively, and generates corresponding reset signals for resetting the first and second voltage domains. The PMC generates a first master reset signal indicative of resetting the first and second voltage domains when the first and second voltage domains are booting. The PMC generates a second master reset signal indicative of resetting the first and second voltage domains when the IC is in a functional mode. The PMC determines whether the first and second voltage domains are non-functional and if at least one is non-functional, then the PMC masks a respective one of the first and second reset signals.

Power management controller for integrated circuit

A fractional frequency divider counts pulses of a digital input clock signal and enables a clock gating module when a preset count is reached. The clock gating module combines the outputs of two clock gating cells that receive, respectively, the input clock signal and an inverted version of the input clock signal. Output pulses are produced on both positive and negative edges of the input clock signal. This permits generation of output clock pulses that can be set to have a spacing and width granularity of half an input clock period, giving the advantages of low jitter and fine duty cycle control.
