A method for a network node for adjusting a periodicity of periodic resources allocated to a wireless device (WD) in a wireless network. The periodicity defines a period of time between periodic resources allocated to the WD. A periodic resource is allocated to the WD to be used by the WD to transmit data to the network node, where the allocation is based at least in part on a periodicity. The method includes determining whether the allocation of the periodic resource to the WD is one of successful and not successful based on whether there is an available resource having the periodicity of the periodic resource. The periodicity of periodic resources is adjusted based on whether or not the allocation of the periodic resource to the WD is successful.

Load-aware variable periodic resource allocation

A method implemented in a network node for scheduling uplink communications from a wireless device is provided. The method includes receiving, at the network node from a WD, a plurality of UL responses associated with UL scheduling. For each received UL response from the plurality of UL responses, a type of the received UL response is determined based at least in part on contents of the received UL response, including a regular UL grant and a wasted UL grant. For each received UL response from the plurality of UL responses, a UL scheduling aggressiveness parameter to control UL scheduling of the WD is determined. The UL scheduling aggressiveness parameter is based at least in part on the determined type of UL response. The method includes, optionally, performing UL scheduling of the WD based on the updated UL scheduling aggressiveness parameter.

Wireless communication uplink prescheduling with guarantees

A method performed by a user device having a multiple connectivity configuration with a plurality of radio links to a plurality of network nodes in a radio communication network is provided. The user device can determine a change occurred in an amount of uplink data available for transmission in a first uplink buffer of the user device on a first radio link of a plurality of radio link to first network node. Responsive to the change, the user device can trigger a buffer status report for transmission to a second network node of the plurality of network nodes on a second radio link of the plurality of radio links for which a change in an amount of uplink data available for transmission in a second uplink buffer was not determined. A method performed by the first network node is also provided.

Methods for buffer status reporting in multiple connectivity and related apparatus

A network node, computer program, computer program product, and a method performed in a network node includes obtaining an estimated data amount of a user equipment, UE, and a resource utilization rate. A percentile R of the estimated data amount is obtained based on a data amount distribution table. The percentile R is compared to the resource utilization rate. Responsive to the percentile R being higher than the resource utilization rate, a resource is allocated to the UE.

Machine learning assisted user prioritization method for asynchronous resource allocation problems

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for parameter setting. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first signaling from the management node at the second hierarchical level, the first signaling corresponding to a first predetermined model; obtaining at least one local measurement value, the at least one local measurement value indicative of a local state of the wireless communication network; processing the at least one local measurement value based on the received first predetermined model to identify at least one parameter value independent of the management node; and managing local state of the wireless communication network by performing at least one predetermined action associated with the identified at least one parameter value.

Parameter setting

A method and network node for dual connectivity for a wireless device are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method in a network node is provided for use in a dual connectivity mode to communicate with wireless devices (WDs), according to a first radio access technology (RAT), and to communicate with WDs according to a second RAT is provided. The method includes scheduling uplink and downlink signals to be transmitted and received by a first set of WDs such that the first set of WDs are operable to: receive downlink signals and transmit uplink (UL) signals using the first RAT only in even Transmission Time Intervals (TTIs) of the first RAT; and transmit uplink signals using the second RAT only in in UL TTIs of the second RAT that do not collide with even TTIs of the first RAT.

Dual-connectivity single uplink schemes

A method, system and network node are disclosed. A network node for communication with a wireless device that is configured for uplink transmission on a first carrier using a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) and on a second carrier using a second RAT is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to determine whether to schedule the wireless device for uplink and whether to schedule the wireless device for uplink and downlink communications, in a transmission time interval (TTI) according to the first RAT based at least in part on an intermodulation distortion quantity associated with uplink communications according to both the first RAT and the second RAT, and optionally schedule the wireless device according to the determination.

Inter-modulation avoidance for transmission on different frequencies

Apparatuses and corresponding methods for discrete power allocation for a non-orthogonal multiple access, NOMA, system are provided. A set of discrete power allocation values is determined. Each power allocation value is assigned to a particular wireless device, WD, in a set of WDs. The determining includes subjecting the power allocation values to at least one constraint to reduce a number of power allocation value combinations. A plurality of superimposed data signals are transmitted to the WDs in the set. Each data signal is intended for a different one of the WDs in the set and has a different power allocation value. Each WD in the set receives all the plurality of superimposed data signals. A different control signal is transmitted to each WD in the set of WDs. The control signal includes an indication of the power level allocation values of the set of discrete power allocation values.

Discrete power allocation for non-orthogonal multiple access systems

Embodiments of the present disclosure are related to achieving better tradeoffs between battery saving and latency to, e.g., support ultra-low latency applications by introducing soft Discontinuous Reception (DRX). In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device in a wireless communications network comprises monitoring, during a DRX awake period, two or more control channel subsets during two or more time periods within the DRX awake period, respectively. The two or more control channel subsets are different subsets of a plurality of candidate control channels. In some embodiments, the two or more time periods are two or more subframes. The candidate control channels are control channels that the wireless device is configured to monitor. The two or more control channel subsets can be selected to, e.g., reduce latency while not increasing energy consumption as compared to legacy DRX.

Soft discontinuous reception (soft DRX)

Systems and methods related to optimized selection, or determination of, Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) feedback modes for downlink transmissions by considering Time Division Duplexing (TDD) uplink/downlink (UL/DL) configuration, transmission mode, cell load, and/or traffic type are disclosed. In this manner, performance can be improved.

HARQ feedback mode determination for downlink transmission

A transmission scheme for transmitting control data segments over a control channel using multi-layer or hierarchical modulation is disclosed. According to principles described herein, first and second control data segments are modulated to form multi-layer symbols configured such that the first control data segment is recoverable via demodulation at a lower order while a second control data segment is recoverable via demodulation at a higher order. In at least some embodiments, the scheme dynamically adapts this higher order to current channel conditions so as to maximize the control channel's spectral efficiency, while at the same time still allowing the system to statically fix the modulation order for the first control data segment, e.g., to maintain (blind) decoding complexity. By transmitting control data in segments using multi-layer modulation, spectral efficiency of the control channel may be improved.

Control data transmission scheme

Systems and methods relating to an unacknowledged connection release in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a base station in a cellular communications network comprises sending a connection release message to a wireless device that is in an Out-of-Sync (OOS) state and releasing a connection with the wireless device without receiving, from the wireless device, an acknowledgement of receipt of the connection release message. In this manner, signaling overhead for releasing the connection of the wireless device that is in OOS state is substantially reduced.

Signaling reduction for out-of-sync users

A wireless communication device (A) is configured to receive user data from a radio network node () in a wireless communication system () that includes a data channel () over which user data is transmitted and a control channel () over which control data is transmitted. The device (A) receives over the control channel () a hierarchically-modulated symbol () which conveys control data on a control-data modulation layer (A) and conveys user data on a user-data modulation layer (B). The control-data modulation layer (A) is recoverable via demodulation at a lower order, and the user-data modulation layer (B) is recoverable via demodulation at a higher order. The lower order is lower than the higher order and is generally predefined independent of conditions on the control channel (). The device (A) recovers the user data received over the control channel () by demodulating at least the user-data modulation layer (B) at the higher order.

Transmitting user data to a wireless communication device over a control channel

A network node, method and wireless device are provided. The network node includes processing circuitry that includes a processor and a memory. The memory contains instructions that, when executed by the processor, configure the processor to configure a reception monitoring resource indicating whether there is at least a possibility that a wireless device is scheduled to receive data in a subframe. The reception monitoring resource is configured to cause the wireless device to bypass decoding of at least one control channel candidate in the subframe when the reception monitoring resource indicates the wireless device is not scheduled to read data in the subframe. The network node includes a transmitter in communication with the processing circuitry. The transmitter is configured to transmit the reception monitoring resource to the wireless device in the subframe.

Multi-stage reception monitoring

A system and method for joint scheduling in a dual-carrier fixed wireless backhaul network is disclosed, wherein the primary carrier is a licensed band, and the secondary carrier is a lower cost shared band or an unlicensed band. The network comprises a plurality of Hub modules, each serving a cluster of one or more Remote backhaul modules (RBMs). A special frame structure and a control channel on the primary carrier carries control signalling messages for RBMs assigned to either the primary or secondary carrier. RBMs with a performance metric, such a spectral efficiency, above a threshold are assigned to the primary carrier. Other RBMs are assigned the secondary carrier, and a channel assignment is then performed. A transmission mode is determined based on instantaneous channel conditions, to optimize overall system performance across a network neighborhood and meet RBM quality of service requirements. A centralized server/processing unit co-ordinates dual carrier joint scheduling functions.
