A thin magnetic head having a structure which makes it possible to significantly reduce the thickness of the head. First and second nonmagnetic metal plates 2 are fixedly attached to respective opposite sides of two core blocks 1. The intermediate metal plates and core blocks are sandwiched between and fixedly soldered to connecting metal plates 6, to thereby integrate the two core blocks with one another.

Magnetic head sandwich assembly having reduced thickness

A recording and reproducing system for performing a read-after-write operation, and for performing automatic tracking. The system includes a magnetic head for recording/reproducing information from/onto a tape. The magnetic head has a first gapped portion and a second gapped portion. The system further includes a reading circuit for reading information recorded on the tape, a writing circuit for writing information onto the tape, a changing device for selectively connecting the first gapped portion to either the reading circuit or the writing circuit, and for selectively connecting the second gapped portion to either the reading circuit or the writing circuit, and a comparator for comparing the outputs from the first and second gapped portions when the first and second gapped portions are each connected to the reading circuit by the changing device, and for outputting a signal representative of that comparison. The system also includes a motor operatively coupled to the output of the comparator for moving the magnetic head in a width direction relative to the tape in accordance with the output of the comparator.

Magnetic head tracking device using plural gaps

A disc-type recording and reproducing system in which only a single motor is required for rotating the disc and for moving a magnetic head radially with respect to the disc. The system includes a continuously rotating body, a coupling rotary body rotated by the continuously rotating body, a subordinate rotary body rotated by the continuously rotated body, and a cam having a head-moving cam surface whose diameter changes in steps and engagement recesses corresponding to each diameter step rotatably holding the coupler rotary body. A head movement control mechanism is engageable with the engagement portion of the cam for controlling the rotation of the cam and allowing the subordinate rotary body to continue rotating while the head is not moving. The head control device releases control of the rotation of the cam and controls rotation of the subordinate rotary body while the head is moving.

Disk-type recording and reproducing apparatus

A tape drive for a tape cartridge having a protective cover at one corner thereof. The tape cartridge is inserted with the protective cover on the inner end. The protective cover is opened at the back of the drive. Then, a door on the drive is closed which first causes a magnetic head to move vertically along a width of the tape to confront the type and then causes the cartridge to slide laterally into the magnetic head.

A recording and reproducing disk cassette having a case accommodating a rotatably mounted disk which is partially exposed through first openings provided in the case which are normally maintained closed by a shutter plate which is moved when the cassette is loaded by the disk to expose the first openings, including first steps provided on the case at an elevation below the outer surface of the case, second steps provided on the case at an elevation below the first steps, the shutter plate being slidably mounted on the second steps, and a protective plate having second openings coinciding with the first openings of the case and being fixedly mounted on the first steps of the case such that the protective plate covers the shutter plate.
