An adsorption type packing for gas chromatography composed of finely divided carbon particles in whole, and having a ratio of nitrogen gas adsorption at a relative pressure of 0.3 (V.sub.0.3) to nitrogen gas adsorption at a relative pressure of about 1.0 (V.sub.1.0) each in the adsorption isotherm of said packing, V.sub.0.3 /V.sub.1.0, of 0.9 or more and a BET specific surface area of 1,000 to 2,000 m.sup.2 /g; and a process for producing said packing.

Adsorption type packing for gas chromatography and process for producing

A packing material for liquid chromatography is produced by mixing 1.0 part by weight of carbon black, 0.5 to 2.5 parts by weight of one or a mixture of a synthetic resin which can be graphitized by heating and a toluene- or benzene-soluble component of pitches, and an organic solvent to obtain a mixture. The carbon black has a particle diameter of 12 to 40 nm, a specific surface area of 50 to 650 m.sup.2 /g, a DBP oil absorption amount of 50 to 150 ml/100 g. The synthetic resin is one selected from phenol resin, furan resin, furfural resin, divinylbenzene resin and urea resin. The pitches are ones selected from petroleum pitches, coal-tar pitches and liquefied coal oil. The mixture is granulated by spray granulation or emulsion granulation to obtain granules whose ratio L.sub.min /L.sub.max of a minor axis diameter L.sub.min to a major axis diameter L.sub.max is 0.90 to 1.0. The heat treatment of the granules is also made in an inert gas under pressure.

Supports for gas chromatography comprising aggregates of finely divided carbon particles, said aggregates having a bulk specific gravity of 0.2 to 0.5 and a specific surface area of not more than 1.0 m.sup.2 /g and being produced by coating finely divided particles, such as carbon powder, having a diameter of 100 .mu.m or less and a content of particles having a diameter of 5 .mu.m or less of 20% or less, with a liquid thermosetting resin, and subjecting the coated particles to forming, curing, heat-treating, dividing and classifying; and a process for preparing said supports.

A curable resin composition is disclosed which comprises (A) a polymer having a (meth)acryloyl group in a side chain, (B) an unsaturated alkyd which is formed by the esterification of a polyvalent alcohol component and an .alpha.-.beta.unsaturated polybasic acid or an anhydride thereof with or without a polybasic acid, the polyvalent alcohol component comprising a phenol-modified epoxy resin which is obtained by the reaction of an epoxy group of an epoxy resin and a phenolic hydroxyl group of a phenol, or the reaction product of a polyvalent phenol compound and a monoepoxide, (C) a polymerizable monomer, and (D) a curing agent. It is suitable for underwater linings, putties, sealing materials, and the like.

The present invention provides a method of automatically controlling a sailboat having at least two soft sails, including the steps of sensing the wind direction to determine an angle of sail in each of the sails, sensing tensions and/or vibrations in each of the sails to adjust the curvature of that sail, and sensing the wind velocity to take in the sails. The present invention also provides an apparatus of automatically controlling a sailboat having at least two soft sails, including a wind direction sensor, a sail angle adjusting device connected with each of the sails and responsive to the output of the wind direction sensor to adjust an angle of sail in the sail, a sail angle sensor for identifying the adjusted angle of sail, a tension and vibration sensor connected with a sheet of each of the sails, and a curvature adjusting device responsive to the output of the tension and vibration sensor to adjust the curvature of the sail.
