A data positioning method includes obtaining positional information indicating a position which is designated by operation of an operation unit in any region among a plurality of regions, each of the plurality of regions corresponding to a predetermined direction along which values of a series of pieces of data are varied and being provided for designating a position of the series of pieces of data in the predetermined direction, and the plurality of regions include at least one region for designating a plurality of discrete positions of the series of pieces of data in the predetermined direction. The method further includes determining the position for designating a portion of data corresponding to the obtained positional information, any one position being determined among the plurality of discrete positions when positional information indicating a position in the region for designating the discrete positions is obtained.

If a pitch bend event is included in a note event, one tone to be sounded in accordance with the note event continuously varies in pitch from a note pitch designated by the note event to another note pitch, as a result of control response to the pitch bend event. For sounding of a note based on an accompaniment pattern, harmony note or the like, the pitch corresponding to the note event is converted in accordance with a designated chord, and thus, not only the note pitch corresponding to the note event but also the other note pitch responsive to the pitch bend event should be converted appropriately. A lead tone is generated on the basis of an input tone signal. Meanwhile, a specific pitch of the input tone signal is sequentially detected, from which is detected a normalized pitch corresponding to any one of the musical pitch names. Then, difference information is obtained which pertains to a difference between the specific pitch and the normalized pitch, and a pitch having a given pitch interval from the normalized pitch is determined as a target pitch of a tone signal to be generated. Then, a harmony tone is generated which has a pitch obtained by modulating the target pitch in accordance with the difference information.

Further, an overflow detecting circuit can be provided to detect an overflow event in which a signal level of the signal circulating through each loop circuit exceeds a predetermined limit value representing the maximum value of the digital data, used in the apparatus, whose number of bits is determined in advance. When the overflow event is detected, an input level of each loop circuit is automatically adjusted. incidentally, the signal level can be visually indicated by indicators such as LEDs.
