A method and apparatus for quantitatively measuring a metal phase contained in a galvanized layer by X-ray diffractometry, and a method of producing a galvanized steel sheet by using the method and apparatus. The diffracted X-ray intensity from a metal phase contained in the galvanized layer is increased to improve measurement accuracy, thereby permitting application to on-line measurement. The diffracted X-rays from the metal phase are measured over a predetermined range on a Debye ring, or measured at a plurality of positions on the Debye ring to increase the diffracted X-ray intensity, thereby improving measurement accuracy. The X-ray beam produced by an X-ray source is compressed and made parallel and monochromatic by a multilayer film mirror to increase diffracted X-ray intensity, improving measurement accuracy. Particularly, the present invention is applied to measurement of the degree of alloying of hot-dip galvanization.

A metallic hollow polygonal column having a smooth outer surface is immersed into a molten slag and immediately pulled up. The contact plane of the slag adhered on the outer surface of the hollow polygonal column is used as the analytical plane. The method of the hollow column has a thickness of 3 mm or greater.

This invention provides a quantitative determination method capable of quickly determining a mean composition of oxide type inclusions and oxygen concentration of a metallic material such as a steel by using an optical emission spectrometer alone. This method comprises the steps of (1) conducting a plurality of times a discharge operation between the metallic material and an opposing electrode in an inert gas atmosphere to obtain an emission spectrochemical spectrum, (2) selecting a discharge in which at least either the oxygen A spectrum or the oxide-forming element spectrum exceed a predetermined intensity for each discharge operation, and (3) subtracting a background from the intensity of the oxygen spectrum and/or the intensity of the oxide-forming elements in the selected discharge, accumulating the balances to obtain a cumulative spectral intensity, and executing quantitative determination by a calibration curve method.

Method of analyzing oxygen and oxide in metallic material

A metal stripping system and an operation process therefor which includes the following elements and steps. A main part of this system is a crystallization apparatus for metal stripping comprising a mixing zone of organic solvent and fluoride series stripping solution, a settling zone for organic solvent, a settling zone for stripping solution, a separation zone for fluorinated metal complex crystal and a stripping solution cooling zone. In the operation of the system wherein the organic solvent containing extracted metal ions is contacted with the fluoride series stripping solution to deposit the fluorinated metal complex crystal and then the crystal is recovered as metal or metal oxide, the stripping solution is circularly used by supplying NH.sub.4 HF.sub.2 solution to the cooling zone, supplying the stripping solution discharged from the apparatus and absorbed with a decomposition gas of the crystal to the mixing zone, and supplying a filtrate after the crystal separation to the settling zone for stripping solution.
