A printing apparatus configured to print an image by discharging inks of different colors from a printing head onto a printing medium includes an edge extractor that extracts an edge pixel constituting a contour of the image from image data and a dot data generator that generates dot data indicating the recording state of dots corresponding to the image data. The dot data generator performs edge processing on a pixel in the image data to reduce the volume of inks discharged when the pixel is the edge pixel to a value that is the product of the volume of inks discharged when the pixel is a non-edge pixel and a coefficient, and the edge processing includes edge processing for maximum brightness for making a minimum value of the coefficient for when the inks discharged onto the edge pixel includes a maximum brightness ink having a highest brightness among the inks of different colors smaller than the minimum value of the coefficient for when the inks discharged onto the edge pixel do not include the maximum brightness ink.

A printing apparatus includes a transport section, a printing section, and a control section. The printing section is configured to move in an intersecting direction intersecting a transport direction of a recording medium. The printing section includes a plurality of nozzles that are configured to perform printing by discharging an ink onto the recording medium. The control section is configured to control the transport section and the printing section. The printing section includes a first nozzle row and a second nozzle row, the first and second nozzle rows form an overlapping section in which the first and second nozzle rows overlap each other as viewed in the intersecting direction. The control section is configured to control a plurality of adjacent nozzles among the first nozzle row and the second nozzle row, which are in the vicinity of the overlapping section, not to discharge the ink.

In addition, the printing mechanism section includes a first nozzle row that forms a first printing region, a second nozzle row that forms a second printing region, and an overlapping section in which the first nozzle row and the second nozzle row overlap. Further, the control section prohibits overlapping of the first printing region with the second printing region on the work when forming the third printing region.

A recording apparatus including a recording head that discharges UV ink onto a recording material and an ultraviolet light irradiation unit that irradiates ultraviolet light to the discharged UV ink so as to harden the UV ink; further includes a failure diagnostic unit that diagnoses a failure condition of the ultraviolet light irradiation unit and a controller that controls operations of the recording head, the ultraviolet light irradiation unit, and the failure diagnostic unit.
