A fluorescent lamp and a color liquid crystal display device, into which the fluorescent lamp is incorporated, use three-wavelength light emitting phosphers not to cause any interference fringe so as to eliminate color shadings from the display screen of said device. A phospher film consisting of a combination of the phosphers having their peak light emitting wavelengths at red, green and blue three-wavelength areas or ranges is formed on inner faces of a bulb of said fluorescent lamp, a half value width at the peak light emitting wavelength of each phospher i set to be in a range of 30 nm-100 nm, and a phospher defined by a general formula M.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2 :Sn, Mn (wherein M is at least one of Sr, Mg, Ba, Ca, Zn and Ga) is used as the red light emitting one. Fringes caused by the interference of light penetrating each optical component of the color liquid crystal display device with light reflected by front or boundary faces of these optical components can be thus prevented.

A film consisting of a fine powder of zinc oxide and titanium oxide and an inorganic binder is formed on the outer surface of a light source. In the color liquid crystal display device, the transmission factors of the liquid crystal shutters corresponding to the primary color pixel components are set substantially equal and the reference white is reproduced on the liquid crystal panel by means of the transmission factors thus set. With this arrangement, it becomes possible to set high the luminance of the reference white, to equalize the gradation levels depending on the primary color and to simplify the configuration of its driving circuit.

A solid-state optical device with a plurality of cells having a plurality of optical functions is disclosed. Each of the cells comprises a transparent substrate, an anti-reflection film formed on the lower surface of the transparent substrate, a MOS transistor and a capacitor formed on the upper surface of the transparent substrate, a liquid crystal display device formed on the MOS transistor and capacitor, and window for leading a light signal incident on the liquid crystal display device from above to the transparent substrate. At least either a channel region of the MOS transistor and a region intervening between pair electrodes of the capacitor is formed of a photoconductive film. A transparent medium intervenes between the transparent substrate and photoconductive film such that light signal led through the window to the transparent substrate is reflected by an object disposed in contact with anti-reflection film to reach the photoconductive film, thereby generating carriers therein.

A method and an apparatus for treating fluorescent substances used in illumination lamps or cathode ray tubes for television receivers. A gas plasma is produced by passing a gas through a discharge tube. The gas plasma including the active species are directed so as to bring the active species into contact with the fluorescent substance, the fluorescent substance being placed at a region separated from the plasma producing region.

Method and apparatus for treating fluorescent substance

A fluorescent lamp which comprises a vacuum-tight envelope provided with electrodes between which discharge takes place during the operation of said fluorescent lamp.
