In a library apparatus, a vertical rail is fixed on a cover member so that a storage medium input-output machine disposed inside the library apparatus moves in a vertical direction, and a horizontal rail moves along the vertical rail in the vertical direction so that the storage medium input-output machine moves in a horizontal direction. Thus, storage media can move between storage medium storing shelves and a drive. The horizontal rail is provided with a mounting section.

A control mechanism for loading/unloading data storage tape is provided. The control mechanism is part of a tape drive that receives a removable tape cartridge. The tape cartridge stores the data storage tape that is movable using the control mechanism. The control mechanism includes a plurality of gears, together with a cam. A leader assembly is operably connected to the control mechanism. At least portions of the leader assembly are movable in connection with loading or unloading the data storage tape relative to the leader assembly. A leader pin is joined to an end of the data storage tape. When the loading operation is performed, portions of the leader assembly are moved generally linearly into the tape cartridge and then the control mechanism causes such portions to pivot in order to engage the leader pin and remove it from its seat. When the unloading operation is performed, the portions of the leader assembly are moved in substantially opposite directions from the loading operation.

Take up assembly door mechanism

Disclosed herein is a magnetic tape unit having a magnetic head for reading and writing data from and onto a magnetic tape. The magnetic tape is traveled in contact with the magnetic head during a read/write operation of the magnetic head. During a rest period where the read/write operation of the magnetic head is not performed, a reciprocating motion of the magnetic tape by a small distance is performed with a predetermined period. A temperature in the vicinity of the magnetic head is detected by a temperature sensor. The predetermined period is changed according to the temperature detected by the temperature sensor. Accordingly, the adhesion of the magnetic tape to the magnetic head can be well prevented irrespective of the temperature inside the tape unit.

Magnetic tape unit

In order to achieve a drive system having a simple structure in which a cartridge having therein a wound magnetic tape can be supplied or replaced in small installation space, a carrier unit structure is employed in which a cartridge is horizontally retracted from a magazine capable of horizontally inserting/removing the cartridge and then held therein. Further, a drive unit is located beneath the carrier unit, and the cartridge held in the carrier unit is released so that the cartridge can be dropped and loaded into the drive unit.

In order to reliably lock a door element and detect its state, a pressing unit is mounted to a part of a door element so that it may press in the closing direction independently of the door body, and latch means is mounted to the mating part of the door element so that it may be engaged with a distal end of the pressing unit at a distance less than a predetermined spacing to finely move the door element. A projecting part is mounted to the pressing unit so as to project toward the mating part. The mating part includes resilient means acting to repel a force of the projecting part influenced in the direction of the mating part, and a switching element operable to detect the closing state of the door element when the projecting part presses the resilient means with more than a predetermined pressing force.

Door opening/closing mechanism

In a magnetic tape drive for a single-reel type magnetic tape cartridge having a leader block coupled to a leading end of a magnetic tape wound therein, a hub for winding the tape pulled out of the cartridge is disposed at rear side of a magnetic head unit for writing data on and reading data from the tape, and has a radial slot formed therein for receiving the leader block of the tape threaded through the unit. The rotational direction of the hub is determined such that the leader block is subjected to an radially-inward force in the slot of the hub at the beginning of a rotational movement of the hub, whereby slippage of the leader block from the slot of the hub can be prevented. A flat flexible printed-circuit cable is used in the drive to establish an electrical connection between a magnetic head of the unit and an amplifier printed-circuit board thereof, and includes a flexible plate having circuit patterns formed on the side faces thereof and connected to each other by through-holes formed therein, and connectors provided on the side faces of the plate and disposed at the ends thereof. The plate is symmetrically shaped with respect to a geometrical center thereof, and the connectors are symmetrically disposed thereto.

Magnetic tape drive for single-reel type magnetic tape cartridge

A magnetic tape unit with a magnetic head for reading and writing data from and onto a magnetic tape. The magnetic tape is kept in constant contact with the magnetic head, and a reel motor travels the magnetic tape kept in contact with the magnetic head. Adhesion of the magnetic tape to the magnetic head is prevented by slowly driving the reel motor to travel the magnetic tape at a speed lower than a normal traveling speed for a read/write operation of the magnetic head, during a rest period when the read/write operation of the magnetic head is not performed.

Magnetic tape drive for a single-reel type magnetic tape cartridge

The developing agent comprises a colorant and vinyl-based polymer synthetic resin to which polyolefin waxes having softening points different from each other are added. Due to this softening point difference, the solidification time period for the waxes after fixation is prolonged; therefore the developing agent attains good fixation and anti-offset properties without deteriorating the preservation property and the fluidity of the developing agent.
