In a terminal holding structure of a connector, a straight portion of a terminal is press fitted into a terminal holding hole formed on a terminal holding wall of a resin housing, so as to be held therein. At least a pair of projecting portions projecting to both sides in a direction orthogonal to a press-fitting direction is formed on the outer surface of a region of the straight portion of the terminal corresponding to the terminal holding hole. The projecting portions are formed with the cross-section orthogonal to the straight portion including a wedge-shaped dent at a distal end. The dents are formed such that a dimension between bottom portions is larger than the dimension of the terminal holding hole at the position into which the projecting portions are press fitted. This enhances the holding power to the terminal, and enables the terminal to be held stably.

Terminal holding structure of connector

A leaf spring portion turning back at a bottom wall (first side wall portion) and coming into contact with a male terminal of a connector on the other side to press the male terminal to a ceiling wall (second side wall portion) is formed in a tubular-shaped main terminal body portion in a terminal, the main terminal body portion is formed when a metal plate is bent in a tubular shape such that a pair of end edges approaches each other to form the ceiling wall (second side wall portion), and depressed portions bending toward an inside of the main terminal body portion and extending in a longitudinal direction of the main terminal body portion are provided in a pair of respective wall portions forming the ceiling wall (second side wall portion).

Terminal and connector

A waterproof structure is achieved by inserting a covered electric wire obtained by covering an outer periphery of a conductor portion with a cover portion made of a resin into an electric wire inserting hole of a connector main body inserted to a terminal receiving chamber in a state of being connected to a terminal received in a terminal receiving chamber of the connector main body and welding the cover portion and the electric wire inserting hole in accordance with a ultrasonic oscillation and a pressurization from an outer side. The connector main body has a weld depth setting portion for setting a weld depth, whereby an excessive welding is prevented.

Waterproof connector

An ultrasonic welding structure is provided for a chip body,and a lid body,to be welded to each other by using ultrasonic waves. The chip body,is provided with a welding recess,defined by tapered sidewalls,A,,A. While, the lid body,is provided with a welding projection,also defined by tapered sidewalls,C,,C, for engagement with the welding recess,. The chip body,and the lid body,in their assembled condition are subjected to ultrasonic oscillation characterized by its amplitude direction A. Then, since the welding surfaces of the sidewalls,A,,C each has a projected area with respect to the amplitude direction A, the welding surfaces are welded to each other owing to frictional heat resulting from the ultrasonic oscillation. With this welding structure, the chip body,is perfectly welded to the lid body,by one time of ultrasonic oscillation.

Ultrasonic welding structure

A connector is provided with waterproof structure. In the structure, a covered wire having a conductor covered with a cover part is connected with a terminal and inserted into a wire insertion hole communicating with a terminal accommodating chamber of a connector body. The waterproof structure is provided by welding the cover part to a connector part defining the wire insertion hole due to ultrasonic oscillating and pressing from outside. The wire insertion hole is provided with a diametrical portion capable of adhering to a cover part of the thinnest wire of the covered wires having differential diameters. Owing to the provision of the diametrical portion, the waterproof structure allows the connector to cope with the covered wires having different diameters.

Connector having waterproof structure

A waterproof structure for an electric wire drawout portion is low in manufacturing cost and enhanced in waterproofness. A cover portion is formed on an end portion of a housing and on this cover portion there is mounted a lower rubber-like elastic member. An upper cover portion is welded to the cover portion by ultrasonic oscillation and on the upper cover portion there is mounted an upper rubber-like elastic member brought into pressure contact with the lower rubber-like elastic member and an electric wire. On the cover portion and the upper cover portion there are integrally formed lower and upper projections exposed on surfaces of the lower and the upper rubber-like elastic member. When welded together by the ultrasonic oscillation, the upper and the lower rubber-like elastic member are closely contacted with each other in a state of their being compressed and simultaneously the upper and the lower rubber-like elastic member are closely contacted with the electric wire, the cover portion and the upper cover portion and the projections are welded to each other.

A waterproof connector is provided. A terminal for ultrasonic wave connection is to be nipped between a first member and a second member, while a covered wire having core elements and a cover portion covering external circumference thereof is stacked on the terminal. The cover portion is melted by applying ultrasonic vibration, while the first and second members are pressed, so that the terminal and core elements are conductively contacted with each other. The terminal includes a relief portion for releasing the melted cover portion. The relief portions are provided at a portion to which the covered wire is to be connected.

A wire connecting structure of a connector comprises a connector housing, a terminal holding portion protruding from an end of the connector housing, terminal incorporating holes which are provided in the terminal holding portion and communicate with the connector housing, terminals disposed within the terminal incorporating holes, covered wires placed on the terminals, and upper hole wall portions which are provided in the terminal holding portion to define upper portions of the terminal incorporating holes and when pressed, subside into the terminal incorporating holes so as to contact the covered wires, core elements of the covered wire and the terminal being subjected to ultrasonic vibration through the upper hole wall portion which is pressed so as to contact the covered wire, so that the core elements and the terminal are conductively contacted with each other, the upper hole wall portion being settled by fusion in each of the terminal incorporating holes by the ultrasonic vibration.

Connecting method of electric wire and terminal

A connecting structure for connecting a covered wire to a terminal is provided. The connecting structure includes a first member and a second member to be laid on the first member. In arrangement, the terminal is interposed between the first member and the second member. The covered wire having core lines covered with an insulating cover is disposed on the terminal. In order to spread the core lines on the terminal, the first member is provided with a projection which extends perpendicular to a direction of the core lines of the covered wire. In manufacturing, the insulating cover is molten by vibrating the second member on the covered wire by ultrasonic waves. Consequently, the core lines are forcibly brought into contact with an end of the projection having a small frictional resistance. Thus, the core lines of the covered wire can be uniformly spread to increase contact area between the core lines and the terminal.

The present invention relates to a waterproof electrical connector housing. Terminal members connected with electrical wires are accommodated in a terminal holding section of a connector housing. An adhesive agent is applied to the terminal holding section and a cover is placed over the adhesive agent and the terminal holding section. By subjecting the housing to ultrasonic vibrations, the adhesive agent hardens to seal the wires and terminal members from the environment. The ultrasonic vibrations and hardening of the adhesive agent also welds the cover to the connector housing.

Terminals are inserted into groove portions of a first member and a covered wire is mounted on each of the terminals. Protrusions of a second member are engaged with the groove portions of the first member. The second member is pressed so that the covered wires are pressed against press-fit blades of the terminal so as to attain electric conductivity. By ultrasonic vibration in the pressing condition, the first member and second member are fused with each other. At the same time, by ultrasonic vibration, the cores of the covered wires are fused with each other and the core and the press-fit blades are fused with each other. By the fusing of the cores mutually and the core and press-fit blades, the contact area is increased thereby decreasing contact resistance.
