A magnetic sensor includes: a substrate; and a sensitive portion disposed on the substrate and having a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. The sensitive portion senses a magnetic field by a magnetic impedance effect. The sensitive portion includes a soft magnetic material layer composed of a soft magnetic material having uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in a direction intersecting the longitudinal direction and sensing the magnetic field. The sensitive portion also includes a secondary soft magnetic material layer laminated between the substrate and the soft magnetic material layer. The secondary soft magnetic material layer is composed of a soft magnetic material with large saturation magnetization compared to the soft magnetic material constituting the soft magnetic material layer.

In a magnetic sensor using a magnetic impedance effect, sensitivity is improved as compared to the case where a width of a sensitive element in the short direction is equal from one end to the other end in the longitudinal direction. The magnetic sensor includes: a non-magnetic substrate; and a sensitive element that is provided on the substrate, composed of a soft magnetic material, having a longitudinal direction and a short direction, provided with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in a direction crossing the longitudinal direction, having a width at a center portion in the longitudinal direction that is smaller compared to a width at each of both end portions in the longitudinal direction, and sensing a magnetic field by a magnetic impedance effect.

Reduction of the S/N in an output from a magnetic sensor using the magnetic impedance effect is suppressed. A magnetic sensoris provided with a sensitive elementincluding: plural soft magnetic material layers; and a nonmagnetic amorphous metal layerprovided between the plural soft magnetic material layers, wherein the soft magnetic material layersfacing each other with the nonmagnetic amorphous metal layerinterposed therebetween are antiferromagnetically coupled to sense a magnetic field by a magnetic impedance effect.

A method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium includes the steps of depositing a magnetic layer on at least one of surfaces of a nonmagnetic substrate and injecting atoms partially in the magnetic layer, thereby demagnetizing parts having admitted the injected atoms or imparting amorphousness thereto, to form a magnetically separated magnetic recording pattern. The step of injecting includes the steps of applying resist to the at least one surface subsequent to the step of depositing, partially decreasing a thickness of the resist and irradiating a surface of the resist with atoms, thereby inducing partial injection of the atoms to the magnetic layer through portions of the resist decreased in thickness.

Method for manufacture of magnetic recording medium and magnetic recording and reproduction device

Provided is a magnetic recording medium including a structure in which at least a soft magnetic underlayer, a non-magnetic intermediate layer, and a magnetic recording layer are sequentially laminated on a non-magnetic substrate, wherein the magnetic recording layer includes a first magnetic layer, a non-magnetic layer, and a second magnetic layer in order from the non-magnetic substrate side, has a structure in which the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer are magnetically separated from each other with the non-magnetic layer interposed therebetween, and consists of a plurality of patterns which are magnetically separated from each other, and the coercive force Hc of the second magnetic layer is larger than that of the first magnetic layer, and the coercive force Hc of the second magnetic layer is smaller than that of the first magnetic layer temporarily when the second magnetic layer is heated.

Method for producing magnetic recording medium and magnetic recording replaying device

Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium having a clear magnetic recording pattern through a simple process. The method includes: forming a magnetic layer on the non-magnetic substrate; forming a mask layer which covers a surface of the magnetic layer; forming a resist layer on the mask layer; patterning the resist layer using a stamp; patterning the mask layer using the resist layer, forming a recess by partially removing a portion of the magnetic layer not covered by the mask layer; forming a non-magnetic layer which covers a surface where a recess is formed; flattening a surface of the non-magnetic layer until the mask layer is exposed; removing an exposed mask layer; removing a protruding portion of the non-magnetic layer; and forming a protective layer which covers a surface where the protruding portion was removed.

The reactive plasma etching is performed under an atmosphere containing an organic compound having at least one kind or plural kinds of functional groups selected from a hydroxyl group, a carbonyl group, a hydroxy carbonyl group, an alkoxy group, and an ether group.
