A method, system and computer program product for storing a sub-table by deciding one of a plurality of table storage areas, the sub-tables resulting from partitioning of a table in a database. To provide efficient table partitioning, a database is described for distributively locating a plurality of sub-tables resulting from partitioning of a table in a database. This includes an acquiring section that monitors access occurrences to each of the sub-tables to acquire a history of access occurrences. Also a deciding section decides a table storage area in which a sub-table is to be located, based on the history of access occurrences to each of the sub-tables.

Table partitioning and storage in a database

To provide efficient table partitioning, a database is described for distributively locating a plurality of sub-tables resulting from partitioning of a table in a database. This includes an acquiring section that monitors access occurrences to each of the sub-tables to acquire a history of access occurrences. Also a deciding section decides a table storage area in which a sub-table is to be located, based on the history of access occurrences to each of the sub-tables.

A method of controlling access to a database includes autonomously archiving data within a database from a first storage device into a second storage device, according to an archive condition; the archive condition being input in conjunction with the data and being associated with the data; accepting an input of an access command to the database; determining whether data to be accessed in response to the access command input has already been archived in the second storage device based on the access command and the archive condition; and accessing data included in the database or data archived in the second storage device according to the access command based on the determination.

Technique of controlling access to database

A working unit of a manipulator includes a hollow joint shaft, wires disposed as power transmitting members in the hollow joint shaft, and a distal-end working unit mounted on an end of the hollow joint shaft and movable by the wires. The wires are wound around respective tubular members in the distal-end working unit. The hollow joint shaft has a pair of visual checking holes defined in respective side walls thereof near the distal end thereof for allowing the wires to be visually checked therethrough. The visual checking holes are positioned to expose the tubular members therethrough.

A temperature measuring unit of a temperature sensor has electrodes disposed on the upper and lower surfaces of a temperature measuring element, thin-film substrates disposed on the upper and lower surfaces of the electrodes, and laser beam shield plates disposed on the upper and lower surfaces of the thin-film substrates. One of the electrodes is bonded to the temperature measuring element by a conductive adhesive, and the other electrode is not bonded to the temperature measuring element by a conductive adhesive. When the temperature sensor is bonded to a hollow cylinder of an insert, the temperature measuring unit is curved along the surface of the hollow cylinder, tending to develop tensile stresses in the other electrode. At this time, the other electrode is positionally displaced depending on the developed tensile stresses, allowing the temperature sensor to be adjusted in length. Consequently, the temperature sensor is prevented from being broken or damaged.

A positioning system for an applicator includes a glove for being used for a diagnosis of the affected part, a mark body provided on the glove, an applicator for being inserted into a living body, and an energy emitter provided on the applicator for supplying energy to the living body. The positioning system further includes a sensor provided on the applicator which is capable of detecting the distance to the mark body, a control apparatus for discriminating an optimum position of the applicator based on the distance between the sensor and the mark body while the mark body is disposed in the proximity of the affected part based on a diagnosis performed using the glove, and a display apparatus for displaying a result of the discrimination by the control apparatus.

This invention is directed to an energy irradiation apparatus including an insertion portion () which includes a hollow cylindrical member () having a sealed distal end portion and is inserted into a living body, and an energy irradiation portion () which applies energy to living tissue through an irradiation window portion () which is provided on a side wall of the hollow cylindrical member () to extend in the longitudinal direction. This apparatus includes a driving unit which reciprocates with substantially a constant velocity the laser irradiation portion () in the direction indicated by an arrow D along the longitudinal direction of the irradiation window portion (). With this structure, the energy irradiation apparatus can uniformly irradiate a lesion with energy.

To provide a medical energy irradiation apparatus which, having a simple and inexpensively manufacturable structure, enables a doctor using it in the heat curing of prostatic hypertrophy or the like to accurately and stably irradiate a prescribed site deep in a living body with a laser beam and, even if its observation window is smeared, to observe tissues of a living body. An inserting portion of the medical energy irradiation apparatus to be inserted into a living body according to the invention has an emitting portion for emitting a laser beam toward tissues of the living body; an observation window, provided near the tip of the inserting portion in its inserting direction, for observing the tissues of the living body; and a hollow pipe for supporting a supporting member, which supports the emitting portion, shiftably in the lengthwise directions of the inserting portion and feeding detergent to the observation window. To provide input means by which a mouse position can be accurately pointed to in a touch panel input system that does not have a pointing device capable of accurate pointing such as a mouse. Input events, which are mouse events (touches of a touch panel display) or keyboard events, are registered to be hooked, and a mouse pointer window is generated. An event hook section is notified of an occurrence of an input event, and the event is processed. In a thermal therapy apparatus for treating a vital tissue by irradiating the tissue with a laser beam, a display unit displays a figure indicating the shape of a diseased part to be heated on the basis of information concerning the diseased part. Heating regions are arranged in the displayed figure indicating the diseased part shape by using identifiers corresponding to individual heating conditions. In accordance with size/position information of these heating regions arranged, heating conditions such as the laser intensity laser irradiation time and laser irradiation angle are set. Laser beam irradiation is performed by controlling the irradiation in accordance with the set heating conditions. The information pertaining to the diseased part can also be input on the basis of an ultrasonic signal from an ultrasonic probe separated from or installed in the laser irradiation portion.
