A scanning probe microscope system capable of identifying an element with atomic scale spatial resolution comprises: an X-ray irradiation means for irradiating a measurement object with high-brilliance monochromatic X-rays having a beam diameter smaller than 1 mm; a probe arranged to oppose to the measurement object; a processing means for detecting and processing a tunneling current through the probe; and a scanning probe microscope having an alignment means for relatively moving the measurement object, the probe, and the incident position of the high-brilliance monochromatic X-rays to the measurement object.

A single row rotating-type eddy current braking apparatus for use with a rotor mounted on a powered shaft comprises a support ring, a plurality of magnets, a plurality of ferromagnetic switching plates, and a support body. The switching plates or magnets are capable of rotating with respect to each other to effect braking. The dimensions of the switching plates and angular displacement of the magnets and switching plates are controlled to minimize drag torque when in a non-braking state. The switching plates can be made to rotate and the bearing can be employed in combination with the rotating and stationary components to alleviate problems such as thermal expansion and wear. The apparatus also utilizes a pneumatic cylinder designed to rotate in the direction of the shaft rotation to achieve a braking state, and can employ a single rod double acting cylinder to switch between braking and non-braking states.

A radio wave receiving signaling device includes an antenna (22) having a coil (22a). An electrically capacitive buzzer (21) is activated by alarm output device (AO) to generate sound when the receiving antenna (22) receives a sound generation instructing signal. The buzzer (21) and all or part of the coil (22a) of the receiving antenna (22) are connected to form a booster circuit to raise a voltage to be applied to the buzzer (21) by a resonance function.

An eddy current retarder includes a rotor (3) fitted over a rotating shaft (1) at one end thereof and a support ring (7) around which a plurality of permanent magnets (10) are circumferentially provided in such a manner that the polarities of any adjacent magnets become opposite to each other. The support ring (7) is provided such that it is allowed to move back and forth in the axial direction of the rotating shaft (1) from a first position where the pole surfaces of the permanent magnets (10) fully confront the rotor (3) with a predetermined gap being secured therebetween to a second position where the former fully deviate from the latter. A boss portion (22) of the rotor (3) adapted to confront the permanent magnets (10) circumferentially provided around the support ring (7) and a cylindrical portion of the same are connected to each other by a support member (31), and this support member (31) comprises a fan (30) having axial blades (35) and radial blades (36) formed, respectively, radially inwardly and radially outwardly of the support member (31). Stator blades (37) are circumferentially provided close to the axial blades (35) on a bearing housing tube (4) fitted over the rotating shaft (1), and cooling fins (28) are radially provided on the external circumferential surface of the bearing housing tube (4) in such a manner as to protrude therefrom.
