A data management apparatus manages a database that has a plurality of items each of which has item attribute data. The data management apparatus includes determining, when an update request to the database is accepted, whether an item that is designated in the update request is included in the items, adding, when the designated item is not included in the items, the designated item to the items, and setting a definition setting flag included in item attribute data of the designated item to a second state that is different from a first state to which a definition setting flag included in item attribute data of an item approved as an item of the database is set.

Data management apparatus and data management method

In a PDP device, a technique capable of more efficiently performing address energy control according to contents of a display image (display data) to reduce the address energy. In the PDP device, as an address energy recovery circuit, a plurality of address energy control circuits (Bto Bn) are provided corresponding to a plurality (n) of regions (Hto Hn) into which a screen area (R) and a group of address electrodes are divided in a horizontal direction. For each of the regions (H) of which the address energy recovery circuits (B) are respectively in charge and for each of subfields, an address pulse switching load (Q) corresponding to that region (H) is determined, and then, according to the magnitude of the load (Q), the operation of the address energy recovery circuit (B) is ON/OFF-controlled.

Method of driving plasma display panel and plasma display device

A plasma display panel has a front substrate () and a back substrate () arranged opposed to each other through a discharge space (). On the back substrate, a fluorescent layer () is formed. On the front substrate, display electrodes are formed extending in a horizontal direction, a discharge cell area is demarcated corresponding to the display electrodes, and a plurality of shielding films () extending in the horizontal direction are moreover formed at each position which is among the display electrodes and within the discharge cell area. When the distance between the shielding films and the fluorescent layer is set to be D, the width L of a shielding film and the distance S between the shielding films satisfy 0.58&#x2266;L&#x2266;D and D&#x2266;S&#x2266;1.73D. This reduces the reflectance ratio of outdoor daylight to improve lighted room contrast.

Plasma display panel

A plasma display panel includes a first and a second plate facing each other via a discharge space. On the first plate, a first and a second bus electrode are provided which extend in a first direction and are disposed at intervals. In a cell, a first and a second display electrode are provided and coupled to the first and the second bus electrode respectively, and facing each other. In addition, on a dielectric layer covering the first and the second bus electrode and the first and the second display electrode, a plurality of address electrodes are provided which are disposed at respective positions facing first barrier ribs. Then, a protective layer is formed directly on the address electrodes and the dielectric layer, covering a surface of the dielectric layer and the address electrodes, and being exposed to the discharge space of the cell.

A plasma display device includes a first electrode from which sustain discharge occurs; a second electrode from which sustain discharge occur to the first electrode, a distance from the second electrode to the first electrode continuously varying in one discharge space; and a driving circuit which generates a sustain discharge pulse that rises in two stages, with an application time of a second-stage voltage being longer than an application time of a first-stage voltage, to apply the sustain discharge pulse between the first and second electrodes, thereby causing the sustain discharge.

Plasma display device and method of driving the same

A plasma display driving method and apparatus that can reduce the occurrences of dropout, on a displayed image, caused by misaddress when the environment temperature becomes low. In the inventive plasma display, the environment temperature is determined, and during a charge adjustment interval, the ultimate voltage, which the drive waveform of a scan electrode voltage reaches at the end after continuously varying in the negative direction, is changed in accordance with the determined environment temperature in such a manner that if the environment temperature becomes lower, the ultimate voltage is directed in the positive direction.

Plasma display driving method and apparatus

A planar display device whose display panel main body can be easily separated from a chassis member upon disposal without preparing large equipment and a special tool. In the planar display device wherein the PDP panel main body () and the chassis member () are adhered by a two-sided tape (), a wire () is previously incorporated for separating the PDP panel main body () from the chassis member () by cutting and peeling the double-sided tape.

An optical filter is provided on the output side of light from plural kinds of cells that output light with colors different from one another. In the optical filter, the penetrable rate of at least a portion of the wavelength band of light output from the cell with the color having highest luminescent intensity is set lower than that of the wavelength band of other kinds of cells. Consequently, the reflectance rate of outer light incident to a display can be reduced. Particularly, in a room environment using artificial lighting, the reflectance rate of outer light can be reduced in the wavelength band of light with relatively high luminescent intensity. Resultingly, bright room contrast can be improved by suppressing the reflection of outer light. Since the penetrable rate of the color with the highest luminescent intensity is reduced, reduction in brightness of the display can be kept to a minimum.

Display device

A problem is to be solved in that there is to be provided a display device and a display method allowing two or more sorts of sustaining pulses to be employed by switching over the pulses depending on the state of display in such a manner as to achieve characteristics including high light emission efficiency/decrease in streaking and high luminance and the like. The display device is provided wherein one frame image contains a plurality of sub-frames, including: a detection section detecting a state of display: a sustaining pulse output section to select and output one out of two or more sorts of sustaining pulses for a display for each sub-frame depending on the state of display.

Display device and display method

A novel PDP device capable of reducing the peak current of a sustain discharge without the need to modify circuits has been disclosed. The PDP device is an AC-type gas-discharge display device comprising an AC-type gas-discharge panelhaving a plurality of first electrodes X and a plurality of second electrodes Y arranged by turns substantially in parallel and a plurality of third electrodes A arranges so as to intersect the first and second electrodes, and in which a cell is formed at the intersection of a combination of the first and second electrode and the third electrode, wherein a cell to be lit is selected during an address period and a discharge is caused to occur for the display in the selected cell by applying sustain pulses of opposite polarities alternately between the first and second electrodes during a sustain discharge period, the plurality of the third electrodes are divided into a first group and a second group, and a fixed voltage 0 V is applied to the third electrode of the first group and the third electrode of the second group is brought into a high impedance state during the sustain discharge period.

Ac-type gas-discharge display device

The present invention provides a plasma display device including: a plurality of scan electrodes sequentially scanned to be impressed with a scan pulse; an address electrode that is impressed with an address pulse corresponding to the scan pulse, for selection of a display pixel; a scan driving circuit generating the scan pulse; and an address driving circuit generating the address pulse. The address pulse rises in n stages (n is an integer equal to or larger than 2), and a period in a period during which the address pulse rises from a lowest voltage to a highest voltage overlaps a scan pulse immediately prior to the scan pulse corresponding to the address pulse.

In a display panel, the luminance and contrast are improved by making a partition semitransparent, which is a constituent element adjacent to a light-emitting section. A visible light incident on the partition proceeds inside the partition while being attenuated at a constant rate. When an external light incident on the partition from the front side is reflected off the bottom surface of the partition and returns to the front side again, the external light reciprocates inside the partition. Since the external light is largely attenuated by the reciprocation, the partition seemingly functions as an optical absorber with respect to the external light. A light emitted by the light-emitting section can transmit through the partition and radiate to the outside from the front side.

Display panel

A plasma display panel has a first substrate, a plurality of address electrodes disposed on the first substrate, a first dielectric layer disposed on the first substrate in covering relation to the address electrodes, a second substrate, a plurality of scan electrodes disposed on the second substrate in a direction transverse to the address electrodes, a second dielectric layer disposed on the second substrate in covering relation to the scan electrodes. The first substrate and the second substrate are disposed in confronting relation to each other with discharge spaces defined therebetween. The first dielectric layer contains electrically conductive particles mixed therewith. The electrically conductive particles make the first dielectric layer electrically conductive in its transverse direction to allow charges stored on the first dielectric layer to leak to the address electrodes for thereby reducing the frequency of random discharges.

Plasma display panel and method of manufacturing same

A method of driving an AC type PDP according to the present invention includes a full screen write step of applying a write voltage higher than a discharge starting voltage to respective cells constituting a screen of the PDP to cause a discharge in the respective cells for accumulation of wall charges therein, the method comprising a write preparation step of applying to the respective cells an auxiliary write voltage lower than the discharge starting voltage and having the same polarity as that of the write voltage to cause a discharge in a charged cell having wall charges accumulated before the application of the auxiliary write voltage for inversion of the polarity of a wall voltage in the charged cell, the write preparation step being performed prior to the full screen write step, wherein the application of the write voltage in the full screen write step is performed within a period during which space charges resulting from the discharge caused in response to the application of the auxiliary write voltage remains in the charged cell.

Method for driving an AC type surface discharge plasma display panel

A method for driving a plasma display panel includes carrying out an erase address operation when a display on the screen is renewed. The erase address operation includes the steps of carrying out an address preparation operation for producing the wall charge in all the discharge cells through a first step of generating a discharge only in a discharge cell in an ON-state and a second step of generating a discharge only in a discharge cell in an OFF-state, and carrying out an operation for selectively erasing the wall charge in a discharge cell other than a discharge cell corresponding to data of the image to be displayed.
