An image processing device, an image processing method, and an image processing program make it possible to accurately recognize property changes between medical images having different imaging times. A property classification unit classifies each pixel included in a target region of each of a first medical image and a second medical image of which an imaging time is later than an imaging time of the first medical image for the same subject into any one of a plurality of types of properties. A quantitative value derivation unit specifies property pairs each representing a property change between corresponding pixels in at least partial regions within the target regions, and derives a quantitative value in the at least partial regions for each of the property pairs.

Case images are registered so as not to cause bias (or partiality or imbalance) in amounts of feature of the case images included in a database of a similar image search system for image diagnosis. Since registration of the case images to the database is controlled according to degrees of similarity of the amounts of feature, it is possible to prevent a lot of similar case images from being included in the search result. Thus, it is possible to reduce possibility of representing a similar search result which may interfere with an accurate diagnosis by a diagnostician.

A corresponding portion of the similar case information sets satisfying three conditions comprising agreement of the time phase information with the search target images, agreement of examination between the portion of the similar case information sets, and similarity of a content-based characteristic to the search target images is obtained.

More accurate search for similar cases can be carried out in the case where images by different imaging methods exist. An imaging information analysis unit obtains imaging information of search target images obtained by different imaging methods in the same examination from accompanying information of the images, and a similar case database storing similar case information sets each including examination ID, imaging information, a characteristic quantity, and image interpretation/diagnosis support information is searched in processing by a first similar case information search unit, a second similar case information search unit, and a judgment unit. A corresponding portion of the similar case information sets satisfying three conditions comprising agreement of the imaging information with the search target images, agreement of examination between the portion of the similar case information sets, and similarity of a content-based characteristic to the search target images is obtained.

A burden in generating a follow-up observation report is reduced. The size of an abnormal shadow present on a current medical image obtained by imaging a subject is measured, and the size of an abnormal shadow present on a previous medical image, which has been obtained by imaging the same subject, at a position corresponding to the position the abnormal shadow on the current medical image is measured. A character string describing a change in the size is generated from the measured sizes of the two abnormal shadows, and a file of a report text, containing the character string, about a case shown in the previous and current medical images is outputted.

An arbitrary cross-sectional image (MPR image) is used as an image for searching a case DB which has registered case images for a case image similar to an image to be diagnosed. A user terminal produces an axial image with reference to a diseased site in the MPR image, the axial image containing the diseased site, calculates a feature value (first feature value) of the diseased site contained in the axial image, and sends the feature value to the case DB. A case image server compares the received first feature value with a feature value (second feature value) for each case registered in a feature value DB, searches the case DB for a case image having a second feature value similar to the first feature value based on the comparison result, and sends the searched case image to the user terminal.

A difference image is obtained between two images which are objects of comparative viewing, regardless of whether the images are processed images. A judgment means judges whether the two images are processed images, based on process confirmation data attached thereto.
