The present invention discloses a double-layer structured low-resistance and low-reflectivity transparent conductive film, comprising a lower high-reflectivity conductive layer containing a fine metal powder in a silica-based matrix and a silica-based low-reflectivity layer, suitable for imparting electromagnetic shielding property and anti-dazzling property to a CRT.

Transparent conductive film and composition for forming same

A hydrophobic metal oxide powder obtained by simultaneously surface-treating a powder of a metal oxide (for example, silica, titania, alumina, or the like) with silicone oil having epoxy groups and a non-polymeric amine compound having a lower number of primary and/or secondary amino groups than the number required for reaction with all epoxy groups, or surface-treating the powder with silicon oil having epoxy groups and amino groups and previously obtained by reaction. Straight silicone oil may be further used for surface treatment. Frictional charge which is controlled within a wide range of from negative charge to positive charge, high hydrophobicity and fluidity can be imparted to the powder by using a relatively small amount of coating, and a hydrophobic metal oxide powder useful as an additive for an electrophotographic developer can be obtained.

Hydrophobic metal oxide powder and application thereof

A zinc oxide powder having high dispersibility, which contains one or more metal elements selected from the group consisting of aluminum, silicon, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, gallium, germanium, zirconium, indium, tin and hafnium in an amount of from 0.1 to 25 atm. % relative to the total amount of metal elements including zinc. The powder has an average primary particle size of up to 1 .mu.m and a relative transmissivity of at least 0.80. The improved properties are obtained by improving the surface of the powder by immersing the powder in one or more organic liquids selected from the group consisting of alcohols, ketones, amines and esters, and then drying the particles. When containing one or more of aluminum, gallium, germanium, indium and tin, the zinc oxide powder of the invention displays high electric conductivity and is therefore applicable as a conductive pigment.

Zinc oxide powder having high dispersibility

A low resistance conductive pigment containing indium oxide crystal grains each including a partial amount of Sn. The amount of Sn ranges from about 1 to about 15 mol % relative to the total amount of Sn and In in each of the indium oxide crystal grains. The conductive pigment further includes a specified surface acidity and a specified volume resistivity. The conductive pigment exhibits improved visibility and averages a primary particle size of up to 0.2 .mu.m,. This allows for the manufacture of superior transparent conductive films which can be useful, inter alia, as a transparent electrode in liquid crystal displays and heating elements having transparent surfaces. In one embodiment, ITO crystals undergo an oxygen extraction treatment, while in another embodiment, surface acidity, is increased by a surface modification treatment. The methods of forming conductive pigments, conductive film forming compositions and conductive resin forming compositions are also disclosed.

Low-resistance conductive pigment and method of manufacturing same

An infrared-ray cutoff material having a structure in which tin-doped indium oxide powder (ITO) powder is dispersed in an inorganic or organic matrix. The material can be in the form of a coating on a substrate available by applying a composition comprising ITO powder, a binder (an organic resin and/or a metal alkoxide) and a solvent (an organic solvent, water and/or alcohol) onto the substrate and drying the same. It may also be in the form of a film, a sheet, a fiber or other shape available by forming a composition made by dispersing ITO powder in an organic polymer. The ITO powder should preferably have an x-value of from 0.220 to 0.295 and a y-value of from 0.235 to 0.352 on the xy chromaticity scale, a lattice constant of from 10.110 to 10.160 .ANG., and a minimum cutoff wavelength of up to 1,000 nm. The infrared-ray cutoff material of the present invention is transparent within the visible region and can totally cut off infrared rays of wavelengths ranging from relatively shorter ones.

A composition for forming transparent conductive films comprises a tin-containing indium oxide (ITO) powder dispersed in a binder solution. The binder solution comprises a mixed organic solvent consisting of at least one polar solvent and at least one non-polar solvent, in which a polymer having a weight-average molecular weight of from 8,000 to 150,000 is dissolved. The polymer contains (a) an acidic functional group in such a proportion that the polymer has an acid number of from 0.5 to 15 mg-KOH/g, or (b) a polyalkylene glycol chain in a proportion of from 0.5% to 40% by weight, or both of (a) and (b) in the molecule. Alternatively, the binder solution comprises an actinic radiation-curable binder, which comprises an acrylate or methacrylate compound containing an acid phosphate group in the molecule. The composition can form, by coating, a transparent conductive film having improved electrical and optical properties.

A novel disinfectant is disclosed. Said disinfectant is a compound 1,n-bis(N.sup.5 -m-, or p-trifluoromethyl-phenyl-N.sup.1 -biguanido)-C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 -alkane. The m-trifluoro-C.sub.6 derivative is a known compound. The compounds of the present invention exhibit germicidal effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris and Alcaligenes faecalis at concentrations of 1/4-1/8 of the effective concentration for chlorhexidine. Against other microorganisms, the compounds are effective at the same level as chlorhexidine.

A novel process for producing highly crystalline, fine .alpha.-alumina is disclosed. Aluminum hydroxide is calcined in the presence of fine silica powder. The obtained alumina is in the alpha form and has a specific surface area of least 10 m.sup.2 /g.

A novel bis-biguanide compound suitable for use as a disinfectant has the following formula: ##STR1## where n is an integer from 2 to 10 inclusive. A pharmaceutically acceptable salt, particularly gluconate salt of the compound is also useful as a disinfectant. The bis-biguanide compound has germicidal activities comparable to those of widely used chlorhexidine with respect to width of antibacterial spectrum and is superior to chlorhexidine in immediate effectiveness. It exhibits excellent germicidal activities against Pyocyaneus bacilli, on which chlorhexidine has poor effect.
