The present invention relates to an impact strength modifier capable of imparting both excellent weathering resistance and impact resistance, and to a resin composition comprising the impact strength modifier and a thermoplastic resin, particularly a rigid vinyl chloride resin. Since this impact strength modifier comprises, as a principal component, an acrylic rubber graft copolymer which is obtained by graft polymerization of a polyalkyl (meth)acrylate (A) rubber containing a plurality of acrylic rubber components composed of a specific monomer as a principal component, and a vinyl monomer (B), it is made possible to improve the impact resistance, particularly impact resistance at low temperatures, of the resin and to satisfactorily maintain the weathering resistance by adding a small amount of the impact strength modifier to the resin. This impact strength modifier is particularly suited for incorporation into a rigid vinyl chloride resin.

A processing aid (B) for foam molding use which comprises a powdered copolymer composed of 50 to 80% by weight of methyl methacrylate, 20 to 50% by weight of an alkyl methacrylate having an alkyl group of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, and 0 to 20% by weight of other copolymerizable monomers, the copolymer having a reduced viscosity (&eegr; /c) of 4 to 8. Use of this processing aid permits vinyl chloride resins to be kneaded efficiently and imparts an increased melt strength thereto, so that fine and uniform foamed cells can be formed and, moreover, a high foaming ratio and an attractive molding appearance can be achieved.

A polyorganosiloxane graft copolymer obtained by graft-polymerizing one or more kinds of monomer which have an ethylenically unsaturated bond and contain at least an epoxy group-containing vinyl monomer onto a compound rubber in which a polyorganosiloxane rubber and a polyalkyl (meth)acrylate rubber have been inseparably united with each other, and in which the component derived from the epoxy group-containing vinyl monomer occupies a proportion of 1 to 30 wt. % of the whole graft copolymer. This polyorganosiloxane graft copolymer is excellent in impact resistance, low-temperature characteristics and weather resistance, and also excellent in the bond strength to paint film applied thereto. This graft copolymer is also useful as adhesives, and particularly it exhibits excellent adhesion performance in depositing aromatic polymers such as polyesters (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate), polyphenylene oxides, polyphenylene sulfides, etc.

Polyorganosiloxane graft copolymers

Disclosed is a composite composition obtained by polymerizing a radical-polymerizable vinyl compound (A) in the presence of a silica polycondensate (B) formed by hydrolysis and polycondensation of at least one alkoxysilane compound in a dispersion system of colloidal silica.
