Provided is a polyphenylene ether resin composition having excellent heat aging resistance and fluidity. A polyphenylene ether includes at least one structural unit selected from chemical formulae (1), (2), and (3).

Polyphenylene ether and resin composition

Provided is a polyphenylene ether flame-retardant resin composition having excellent flame retardance and long-term flame retardance. The flame-retardant resin composition contains: (A) a resin including (A-1) a polyphenylene ether; and (B) a flame retardant. The (A-1) component has a content of 50 mass % or more when the flame-retardant resin composition minus ash content, corresponding to a residue obtained upon burning of the flame-retardant resin composition, is taken to be 100 mass %. A shaped article of 12.6 cm in length, 1.3 cm in width, and 1.6 mm in thickness formed from the flame-retardant resin composition exhibits a rate of change of chloroform-insoluble content of 15 mass % or less through aging in which the shaped article is left for 1,000 hours at 150&#xb0; C. in an atmospheric air.

Polyphenylene ether flame-retardant resin composition

Provided is a flame retardant resin composition excellent in flame retardance, and surface smoothness, appearance, flame retardance and electrical properties after a long-term thermal aging (e.g. 150&#xb0; C., 500 hours) while maintaining mechanical and electrical properties. The disclosed flame retardant resin composition is a flame retardant resin composition containing a polyphenylene ether, in which, based on UL94 flammability test, an average burning time of a molded product having a length of 12.6 cm, a width of 1.3 cm and a thickness of 1.6 mm formed of the flame retardant resin composition before and after the aging processing in which the molded product is left to stand at 150&#xb0; C. for 1000 hours under the atmospheric pressure is within 10 seconds, and a change rate of chloroform-insoluble component of the molded product before and after the aging processing is 15 mass % or less.

Flame-retardant resin composition

Provided is a method for producing polyphenylene ether (PPE) having excellent mechanical properties, heat aging resistance, and color, and in which the content of impurities such as low molecular weight components and catalyst metal is low. The method for producing PPE includes: performing oxidative polymerization of a phenolic compound in a polymerization solution containing the phenolic compound, a catalyst, and an aromatic solvent to obtain a PPE mixed liquid; precipitating PPE to obtain a slurry containing particulate PPE through addition of a polar solvent to the PPE mixed liquid; solid-liquid separating the slurry to obtain wet PPE particles; washing the wet PPE particles to obtain PPE particles through at least one cycle of a washing and solid-liquid separation process in which washing is performed with a washing liquid containing an aromatic solvent and a polar solvent, and in which solid-liquid separation is performed; and drying the PPE particles.

Method for producing polyphenylene ether

A method for producing a polyphenylene ether (PPE) provides the PPE that includes less gel and that is good in mechanical property and heat resistance, wherein the method includes a polymerization step of subjecting a phenol compound to oxidative polymerization in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a good solvent for a polyphenylene ether to thereby provide a polyphenylene ether solution, a catalyst extraction step of adding an aqueous chelating agent solution to the polyphenylene ether solution and extracting the polymerization catalyst into the aqueous chelating agent solution to thereby provide a catalyst-removed polyphenylene ether solution, a concentration step of removing a part of the good solvent from the catalyst-removed polyphenylene ether solution to provide a concentrated polyphenylene ether solution, and a gel removal step of removing at least a visually observable chloroform-insoluble substance from the concentrated polyphenylene ether solution, to thereby provide a gel-removed polyphenylene ether solution.

To provide a dense beta-alumina-based sintered compact having a high ionic conductivity as a solid electrolyte by firing at a low temperature to suppress the volatilization of NaO and its production method. By adding RNbOwhich is a material having a low melting point to a beta-alumina powder, followed by firing, it is possible to obtain a beta-alumina-based sintered compact having a low firing temperature and containing, as the main component, dense &#x3b2;&#x2033; alumina crystals which are free from anomalous grain growth during the firing process.

[Problem to be Solved] The present invention has an object to provide an automotive lamp extension molding comprising a resin composition having a low specific gravity, being excellent in the balance of heat resistance and fluidity, and being excellent in gloss and brightness feeling of the surface of the molded article. [Solution] The automotive lamp extension molding according to the present invention comprises a resin composition comprising 50 to 95 mass % of a polyphenylene ether (A), and having a specific gravity in the range of 1.00 to 1.12. The reduced viscosity (measured at 30&#xb0; C. using a chloroform solvent) of the (A) component is preferably 0.25 to 0.45 dl/g, and more preferably 0.25 to 0.38 dl/g.

A light diffusion plate has a substrate and a light diffusion layer formed on the substrate. The light diffusion layer is composed of at least two layers: a first light diffusion layer containing a first matrix and a first light diffusion agent having a refractive index difference &#x394;nof 0.04&#x2266;&#x394;n&#x2266;0.2 with the first matrix, and a second light diffusion layer containing a second matrix and a second light diffusion agent having a refractive index difference &#x394;nof 0.005&#x2266;&#x394;n&#x2266;0.01 with the second matrix. The volume fraction of the first light diffusion agent in the first light diffusion layer is less than 40%, the volume fraction of the second light diffusion agent in the second light diffusion layer is at least 40% and the total thickness of the light diffusion layers is from 5 to 200 &#x3bc;m after curing.

A low molecular weight polyphenylene ether having a reduced viscosity of 0.04 to 0.18 dl/g as measured at 30&#xb0; C. in a 0.5 g/dl chloroform solution, and a molecular weight distribution of 1.5 to 2.5; or a low molecular weight polyphenylene ether powder comprising the low molecular weight polyphenylene ether exhibits high thermal resistance and excellent electric properties, and thus is useful as electric materials such as printed circuit board and as modifiers of other resins.

Low molecular weight polyphenylene ether

A resin composition comprising a polyphenylene ether produced by polymerizing a monomer component consisting of 100 parts by weight of 2,6-dimethylphenol and 0.5 to 7.5 parts by weight of o-cresol in the presence of both a catalyst and an oxygen-containing gas and a flame retardant. When the polyphenylene ether has a molecular weight distribution of 2.8 to 8.0, the resulting resin composition is more excellent in flame retardance, particularly anti-dripping properties in burning. The resin composition is applicable to not only electric and electronic applications necessitating high flame retardance but also other fields of application of polyphenylene ether resins.

Polyphenylene ether resin composition

A 2,6-dimethylphenol composition having an m-cresol content of from 15 to 700 ppm on a weight basis has effects of drastically improving polymerization activity and particularly, improving the color tone of polyphenylene ethers. Therefore, the composition makes it possible to provide a preparation process having improved productivity, and at the same time, provide polyphenylene ethers having good quality.
