An airbag includes: a first inflatable section that is inflated and deployed forward from the upper portion of a seat back through the left side of a head of an occupant; a second inflatable section that is inflated and deployed forward from the upper portion of the seat back through the right side of the head of the occupant; and a third inflatable section that is continuous with lower portions of front portions of the first inflatable section and the second inflatable section and that is inflated and deployed in front of the chest of the occupant. The front portions of the first and second inflatable sections extend in directions intersecting the vehicle front-rear direction so as to be closer to each other toward the front side. The front portions meet each other at a front end of the airbag.

Airbag and occupant restraint device

A method of making a flame resistant airbag suitable for use in aviation applications is discussed. A flame resistant fabric for the use in the construction of aviation airbags is woven from a high tenacity continuous polyester fiber substrate. A polyurethane coating is applied to the woven fabric, which has been treated with a flame retardant, to impart high pressure permeability resistance to the flame resistant fabric. The resulting fabric complies with Federal Aviation Requirement 25.853 as well as exhibits sufficient high pressure permeability resistance which is measured as a pressure of not less than about 198 kPa after five seconds from an initial inflation and pressurization to about 200 kPa, such as may be encountered in and during an inflation of aviation airbag assemblies.

Method of making a flame resistant airbag suitable for use in aviation applications

A flame resistant fabric for the use in the construction of aviation airbags comprises a polyester fiber substrate which is treated with a first flame retardant. A polyurethane coating is applied to the polyester fiber substrate, which has been treated with the first flame retardant, to impart high pressure permeability resistance to the flame resistant fabric. The polyurethane coating comprises a second flame retardant to insure that the flame resistant fabric complies with Federal Aviation Requirement 25.853. The flame resistant fabric further comprises sufficient high pressure permeability resistance which is measured as a pressure of not less than about 198 kPa after five seconds from an initial inflation and pressurization to about 200 kPa, such as may be encountered in and during an inflation of aviation airbag assemblies.

Flame resistant fabric for aviation airbags

Provided are an aircraft airbag that inflates across a plurality of seats, an airbag device including this airbag, and an aircraft equipped with this airbag device. The airbag has a bag main body extending across three seats and in the left-right direction of the aircraft body, and partition panels that partition the inside of the bag main body into small chambers and corresponding to the seats. Gas from the inflator flows into the small chamber in the middle, and flows into the small chambers through the communication portions above and below the partition panels. When occupants are caught and thereby the pressures in the small chambers reach a predetermined value or more, vent holes open.

Aircraft airbag, airbag device, and aircraft

An air belt device includes a first cover member and a second cover member connect to each other defining an interior surface having an interior cavity. An inflatable member is at least partially disposed within the interior cavity defined by the first cover member in a non-inflated state. The inflatable member is folded inward so a peripheral sewn portion is placed in a center portion of the first cover member.

Air belt system

An occupant leg part restraint apparatus including a cover cloth for preventing an air bag inflated and developed under a steering column (steering column cover) from interfering with an auxiliary key, in which the cover cloth can be rapidly projected to the upper side of the air bag. A key device () is installed on the right side face of the steering column cover (). The auxiliary key () is fitted in a suspended state to a key () inserted into the key device (). The air bag () is provided with a cover cloth () which is projected from the right side upper end of the air bag () upward and interposed between the air bag () and the key device () when the air bag () is inflated. The cover cloth () includes an extension part () extended laterally from the vertical intermediate part on the side of the cover cloth. The vertical intermediate part of the cover cloth () is connected to the upper end of the air bag () through the extension part ().

Occupant leg portion constraining apparatus

An occupant restraint apparatus includes a shoulder anchor and an occupant restraint belt. At least a portion of the occupant restraint belt that is positioned adjacent to the occupant's head is inflatable. The occupant restraint belt comes into contact with the top edge of the seat back even when the volume of the inflatable portion is reduced. A shoulder anchor is positioned behind a seat in the front-rear direction of a vehicle at substantially the same height or below the top edge of a seat back. Therefore, a shoulder belt section of an occupant restraint apparatus extending from the shoulder anchor along the front side of an occupant is in contact with the top edge of the seat back. Therefore, when the shoulder belt section is inflated, excess inflation of the shoulder belt section toward the seat back can be prevented.

Occupant restraint apparatus

An airbag apparatus mounted on a motor vehicle is constructed such that a folded shape of an airbag is held by an airbag-holding member disposed in a manner to wrap an external surface of the folded airbag, which is housed in a retainer. The airbag-holding member is constructed such that a film sheet, in which a plurality of resin layers is laminated together, is configured to have a bag-shape that wraps around an entire external surface of the folded airbag.

Airbag apparatus

An airbag apparatus includes an airbag, an airbag housing portion for housing the airbag in a folded-back condition, an airbag cover for covering the airbag opening, a gas-supplying portion for supplying gas to the airbag, an airbag-holding member formed of a film sheet, and a thin thickness portion formed in the film sheet of the airbag-holding member. The airbag-holding member holds a folded-back shape of the airbag while wrapping around an external surface of the airbag in the folded-back condition. The airbag-holding member is ruptured at the thin thickness portion by the gas supplied from the gas supplying portion when a motor vehicle accident occurs.

The disclosed passenger constraining apparatus includes an inflated inflatable portion which may be placed at a high position around a lateral side of a passenger's head without using a high-capacity inflator. The passenger constraining device may include a passenger constraining belt comprising an inflatable portion configured such that at least a portion of the inflatable portion is arranged near the lateral side of the head of the passenger and a push-up device for pushing up the inflatable portion.

Passenger constraining apparatus

The disclosed air belt can protect a vehicle occupant in the event of an emergency. The disclosed air belt may include a folded back body formed by folding back a bag-shaped belt into a belt like shape and an extendable cover covering the folded back body. An inner surface of the cover can be bonded to an outer surface of the folded back body with a bonding agent. The bonding agent can be bonded in a scattered point-like manner.

Air belt apparatus

An occupant restraining apparatus includes a seat belt with an inflatable portion that can be placed at a high position on a lateral side of an occupant's head without using a large-capacity inflator. A push-up device with first and second levers for pushing up a shoulder belt section is provided on an upper side of a seatback. When the shoulder belt section is inflated, upper arm portions arranged on an upper side of the shoulder belt section are pressed upward, and the respective levers rotate upward about pivotably supporting portions. At this time, lower arm portions of the respective levers arranged on a lower side of the shoulder belt section rise and rotate, and a hanging member is tensed between the lower arm portions. Consequently, the inflated shoulder belt section is pushed upward, and is placed at a high position on the lateral side of the occupant's head.

Occupant restraining apparatus

An airbag module for use in a motor vehicle is manufactured by first to third steps. In the first step, the airbag is folded into a predetermined configuration, and in the second step, an entire external surface of the airbag, in an initially folded condition obtained in the first step, is wrapped in a bag-shaped film forming member. The bag-shaped film forming member includes a plurality of resin layers formed in a layer-stack manner with regard to a film cross-sectional direction. In the third step, the initially folded airbag is housed in the airbag-housing member in a condition wherein the airbag has an airbag volume reduced to less than the airbag volume at a time of being initially folded, by a compression force applied to the bag-shaped film forming member.

Method for manufacturing airbag module

A passenger protection device may be configured with an airbag including a protection space portion region for alleviating restraint pressure at the time of restraining a passenger, so as to restrain the passenger, regardless of difference in physical build of the passenger on the vehicle seat at the time of expansion and inflation. A determination may be made regarding whether or not a directly seated object on the vehicle seat is a passenger or a child seat based on the tension information from a belt tension sensor. Depending on the outcome of the determination, performance of an airbag or an inflator may be controlled by a control device.

Passenger protection device

An occupant restraint apparatus includes an airbag that inflates toward the front of an occupant and an inflatable seatbelt having at least an inflatable shoulder belt section. The shoulder belt is fastened on the front side of the occupant's upper body. The airbag includes a right airbag section and a left airbag section that inflate toward the right front and the left front, respectively, of the occupant. When the airbag and the shoulder belt section are both inflated and the airbag receives the occupant, the inflated shoulder belt section enters a hollow space provided between the ends of the right airbag section and the left airbag section. Thus, the apparatus prevents or suppresses discharge of gas from the airbag caused when the inflated shoulder belt section pushes the airbag inward before the airbag receives the occupant.
