A medication support apparatus includes a storage unit, an extracting unit, a transfer unit, and a medicine distributing unit. The storage unit is configured to store, in a stacked manner, one-dose packages in each of which medicines are packed. The extracting unit is configured to extract a specific one-dose package from the storage unit. The transfer unit is configured to transfer the one-dose package extracted by the extracting unit. One-dose package transferred by the transfer unit is configured to be arranged on the medicine distributing unit. The extracting unit is configured to be located under the storage unit when the one-dose package is extracted from the storage unit.

A sheet processing apparatus includes a sheet processing unit, a sheet feeder, and a unit cover. The sheet processing unit inserts an inner sheet into a two-ply sheet in which two sheets are overlapped and bonded together at one ends as a bonding portion. The sheet feeder is disposed above the sheet processing unit and is movable to open to expose the sheet processing unit. The sheet feeder feeds one of the two-ply sheet and the inner sheet. When a vehicle accelerates due to an upshifting of a transmission, a recirculation valve is opened and ignition period is retarded so that the torque generated in an internal combustion engine decreases. An engine is provided with a turbo charger including a wastegate valve. A first setpoint of opening of the wastegate valve is set in accordance with a target boost pressure. While a difference between the target boost pressure and a real boost pressure is large, the opening is controlled to a second setpoint, wherein the second setpoint is smaller than the first setpoint. While the opening is controlled to the second setpoint, it is determined whether a condition for limitation is satisfied in which an intake air quantity is above an intake air quantity criterion and an engine rotation speed is above an engine rotation speed criterion. When the condition is satisfied, the opening is controlled in a direction to increase from the second setpoint. The engine rotation speed criterion decreases as the intake air quantity increases. The intake air quantity criterion decreases as the engine rotation speed increases.

An oscillating mirror module as a deflecting unit is disposed so that a movable mirror faces a plane where image carriers are arranged. A plurality of light source units are disposed within a plane parallel to the plane where the image carriers are arranged so that main light fluxes of light beams emitted from the light sources form predetermined angles with each other. The oscillating mirror module includes an incidence mirror that bends a plurality of light beams emitted from the light source units to direct the light beams to the movable mirror, and a separation mirror that separates the light beams scanned by the movable mirror into two opposite directions with respect to a cross-section including a surface normal of the movable mirror and perpendicular to the rotation axis of the movable mirror. Embodiments of the present invention help improve the process for updating parities accompanied by the writing process. According to one embodiment, a host controller transmits a write command and new data to a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD reads old data at a region where the new data are to be written. The HDD then XORs the new data and the old data to generate a pseudo-parity. The HDD sets the pseudo-parity in a data frame addressed to both of a horizontal parity disk drive HDD and a diagonal parity disk drive HDD and transmits it. The horizontal parity disk drive HDD and the diagonal parity disk drive HDD update the parities using the pseudo-parity.

Embodiments of the invention provide an error recovery scheme that allows a data read/write error in a data storage device to be processed within a short time, and a data storage device that attempts error recovery using the error recovery scheme. In one embodiment, a data storage device conducts an error recovery process for a data access error in accordance with an error recovery procedure having multiple error recovery steps; the data storage device including a head that accesses a data region of a user data storage medium, and a controller that controls the error recovery process by using not only address information of the sector where the access error to the data region has occurred, but also an error recovery log which has address information of the data region and past error recovery information associated with the latter address information.

An optical scanner is capable of effectively correcting a difference with respect to the sub-scanning direction between the positions of optical spots for scanning photoconductor drums of a tandem type color image forming apparatus. The optical scanner includes an optical axis adjusting part. The optical axis adjusting part uses a deflecting mirror or a wedge-shaped prism to deflect the optical axis of an optical beam with respect to the sub-scanning direction. As a result, it is possible to accurately correct a resist difference among individual image forming stations and form a high-quality color image without any color displacement.

Embodiments of the invention relate to diagnosing error-correcting retries of an upper system by using a disk drive under control of the upper system. In one embodiment, a microprocessor can operate in any of at least two operation modes. One is normal operation mode while the other is pseudo failure operation mode. Mode switching is made by a switch. Strictly, the pseudo failure operation mode includes three different operation modes: 1) pseudo logical error report mode in which a pseudo logical error is reported to the upper system without performing disk control; 2) pseudo component circuit failure mode in which a control circuit is forced to cause a failure by setting invalid control values to the control circuits; and 3) pseudo interface failure mode in which a pseudo interface failure in the system comprising multiple disk drives is reported by setting an invalid control value to the interface control circuit.

Embodiments of the invention prevent a magnetic head from coming into contact with a protrusion on a magnetic disk. In one embodiment, a head gimbal assembly includes a piezoelectric actuator for changing the flying height of a head/slider assembly. The address of a protrusion on a magnetic disk is preregistered in a nonvolatile memory. When a seek operation or following operation is to be performed, the head/slider assembly flies at a reference flying height. Before the protrusion passes below the head/slider assembly, an operating voltage is applied to the piezoelectric actuator to increase the flying height. After the protrusion passes below the head/slider assembly, the head/slider assembly flies at the reference flying height with operating voltage application stopped.

Magnetic disk drive with flying height control, control method, and manufacturing method

A warning against the possible failure is accurately sent from the magnetic disk device to a host device. In one embodiment, error indices per unit time are stored discontinuously/continuously for each magnetic head, and if the new index (partial integral error rate) updated with the stored multiple error indices as the items to be monitored satisfies required conditions, this state is diagnosed as an abnormality or a pseudo-abnormality, and reported to the host device. The partial integral error rate is updated with an increase in the number of sets of error indices. Each time a new set of error indices per unit time are stored, the oldest of the existing error indices to be monitored is discarded and one of the new error indexes is added. In this way, a new partial integral error rate is calculated from the fixed number of new sets of error indices to be monitored. When the partial integral error rate increases above a second required threshold, this state is reported as an abnormality to the host device since a failure is most likely to occur in the magnetic disk device.
