A stereo picture recognition device has a time-sharing picture display shutter disposed between a display surface of a display device and a viewer. The time-sharing picture display shutter has a function of shutting off only an area covered by a viewing angle which corresponds to a display area of the display device.

Stereo picture recognition device and method of displaying stereo picture

A semi-spherical system holding mechanism 8 such as to cover the head portion of the user is provided in the upper portion of a user holding mechanism 9 such as chair, sofa, or the like. A display apparatus 7 is fixed in the system holding mechanism 8. In the display apparatus 7, a video image displayed on a display panel 14 is enlarged by a lens 13, so that a virtual image is formed. The virtual images which are observed by the right and left eyes of the user are arranged at the same position in a space.

Display apparatus

In this state, when a user looks through the lens (11R), the user can see an virtual image formed by magnifying an image displayed on a display panel (12R) with the lens (11R).

Portable display device

A display device to be worn by the user on his or her head comprising a pair of left and right image display members which are arranged on a frame to be put on a head of a user in a manner enabling them to be moved in a direction toward or away from each other; a pair of left and right lens members on the frame which show virtual images of the images displayed by the image display members to the user, the light axes of which being made substantially parallel to each other at a position on a light path extending from the left image display member to the left eye of the user and at a position on a light path extending from the right image display member to the right eye of the user, in a manner enabling them to be moved in a direction toward or away from each other; and a link mechanism member for variably adjusting the distance in the horizontal direction between the lens members so to adjust the distance in the horizontal direction between the image display members linked with the adjustment of the distance between the lens members.

Display device

To relieve fatigue of viewer's eyes, a binocular display system is equipped with a mechanical or electrical adjusting section for minimizing a separation between left and right virtual images for the left and right eyes. The adjusting section holds the arrangement of the four positions of left and right lenses (or curved mirrors) and left and right pictures produced by at least one display device in such a manner as to reduce the separation between the left and right virtual images of the left and right picture substantially to zero, and/or adjusts the arrangement of these four positions to move the left and right virtual images in a desired direction so that the left and right images remain optically coincident.

Binocular type display system

An optical apparatus using a display device is comprised of a lens system having an optical axis, a display device for displaying a video image on the optical axis, a beam splitter for splitting information of visual image, the beam splitter being formed so as to incline an angle of about 45 degrees relative to the optical axis and located under the lens system, and a shutter device disposed in front of the beam splitter for controlling transmission of image from the surrounding, wherein the video image is shown as a virtual image with the image from the surroundings when viewer peeps the video image from the back of the beam splitter.
