An authentication system comprises a register image storage unit, which stores a pre-registered register image of a mobile terminal user; a communication control unit, which receives a moving image of the user transmitted from the mobile terminal; and an authentication processing unit, which authenticates the user by checking the moving image received by the communication control unit against the register image stored in the register image storage unit.

To extract part of a large volume of traffic and adjust the total volume of traffic dynamically. When a communication request is originated from a telecommunications apparatus, a communications control unit makes an inquiry to a service control unit. The service control unit screens originators based on originators' attribute information in its possession and service contract information. Then, based on the results of screening, it sends back to the communications control unit instructions to reroute subsequent calls. The communications control unit connects to the information processing unit based on the reply from the service control unit and transfers information. Thus, only the communication requests which satisfy predetermined criteria are connected. The information processing unit compiles statistics on the transferred information based on attribute information in its possession. The statistics are transferred to the information providing unit and to the information processing unit.

A short cell multiplexing is provided for chiefly transmitting data shorter than the payload of a standard ATM cell (basically the data of less than 48 bytes, but the data more than 48 bytes can be allowed). A standard ATM cell assembler converts various forms of input information into short cells, places the short cells in standard ATM cells efficiently considering their information length, and output them to a B/ISDN network . The standard ATM cell disassembler disassembles the standard ATM cells, which are assembled by the standard ATM cell assembler and is input through the B-ISDN network , into short cells, converts the short cells into those with the original input information forms, and outputs them to channels. The configuration makes it possible for the short cell ATM cell multiplexing to improve channel efficiency with small delay, and matching to the standard ATM system.

Transmission quality and throughput are improved when communication is carried out using fixed-length packets in wire circuits between radio base stations and a mobile switching center in mobile radio communications systems. Low bit-rate digital information signals are converted to short packets by a plurality of information data assembly/disassembly circuits provided in parallel. A plurality of these short packets are transmitted after being inserted into a long fixed-length packet by means of a fixed-length packet assembly/disassembly circuit, and a plurality of short packets are extracted from the fixed-length packet and then restored to the low bit-rate digital information signals by information data assembly/disassembly circuits. This enables high throughput, economical communication paths to be constructed.
