When a transmitting terminalA and a receiving terminalB performs communication via a network, at a communication apparatuscontrolling the bandwidth of the communication, a receiving bandwidth measuring unitmeasures the bandwidth for the communication in at least one direction of the communication in two directions from the transmitting terminalA to the receiving terminalB and from the receiving terminalB and the transmitting terminalA. The session tablestores information regarding bandwidth adjustment including the target bandwidth required for the communication. The bandwidth adjusting unitreads out, from the session table, the target bandwidth in the direction for which the bandwidth was measured, and throttling or enhancing of the bandwidth is performed by adjusting the transmission interval of packets based on the comparison of the bandwidth measured at the receiving bandwidth measuring unitand the read out target bandwidth.

A transmitter and a receiver each have an apparatus for carrying out retransmission processing at a TCP layer and an apparatus for carrying out encrypted-data communication at an IPSec layer. The apparatus operating at the IPSec layer has a buffer for storing encrypted data transmitted by the transmitter. When a request for retransmission of data is received from the receiver, in spite of an operation carried out at an IP layer, information available at the TCP layer is obtained and data corresponding to the encrypted data stored in the buffer is returned to the receiver in response to the request.

For example, a time up to a read of an interrupt factor by the processor is obtained as a determination factor, and is multiplied by a coefficient, thereby determining a delay time as a delay condition.

The transmission server according to the present invention includes a processor, buffer memory, an I/O bus, and a transmission unit. Furthermore, the transmission unit includes a transmitting unit for controlling the generation and transmission of a packet, buffer memory for holding transmission data provided by the processor, and an NIC for connection to a network. The processor manages receivers, and transfers data in the buffer memory to be transmitted to the transmission unit connected to the I/O bus. A transmitter redundantly transmits data in an available band range when transmitting data. A receiver discards redundancy and receives the data. The receiver also redundantly transmits ack in an available band range. Since data is redundantly transmitted/received, there is a high possibility that data may reach the opposite party normally even if one of the duplicate data is lost. Accordingly, high-speed communication can be realized. Since time no data flows through a communication route is reduced, network resources can be effectively utilized.

An information transfer mechanism including (all or a part of) a retrieval mechanism can be realized. A user mechanism converts numeric data indicating 'information' into a uniquely corresponding information network address, and transmits a packet storing the address to the network. A relay mechanism which has received the packet determines the route to a host storing the information corresponding to the information network address stored in it, and relays the packet. Upon receipt of the returned packet from the host, the relay mechanism determines the route to the user mechanism corresponding to the network address stored in the return packet, and relays the return packet. Upon receipt of the return packet from the relay mechanism, the user mechanism receives the information stored in the return packet.

A retrieval key to be used for the retrieval of a table is divided into a plurality of divided retrieval keys consisted of a plurality of bit strings. Each divided retrieval key is provided with a corresponding retrieval table. Further, the size of the table to be retrieved by one divided retrieval key is made to be smaller than the size of a table to be retrieved one time by a whole retrieval key. First, the first retrieval table is retrieved by the divided retrieval key (A bits). If the result is obtained, the result is outputted unchanged. If the pointer to the second retrieval table is obtained, the second retrieval table is retrieved by the other divided retrieval key (B bits). In this way, a retrieval process continues using the divided retrieval keys.

A table storing a state transition rule is arranged in a memory. By referencing the table based on input data, the process to be performed for the input data is determined and executed. Additionally, a process capability can be changed by altering a setting in this table. As a result, a data processing device that can perform the processes for general-purpose data, such as a stream data process, etc., at high speed, and can flexibly change a capability according to the circumstances.

At least three control patterns are used for a connection management control of nodes in a ring network, each node determining a changeable communication status in accordance with a communication status of the own node and the nature of the control pattern received from an upstream node. The own node transmits one of the control patterns, selected in accordance with the changes in the communication status, to the downstream node. The control patterns indicate respective conditions of the own node so that the communication enable status of the ring network, as a whole, can be autonomously established by the nodes per se without employing a monitor node or supervisory node.
