An electronic camera comprises an encoding/decoding unit for compressing/decompressing digital data obtained by an image sensing unit and processed by a signal processing unit, a recording medium for recording the encoded data, a display control unit which outputs a display image signal upon reception of an output from the signal processing unit and incorporates a character generator for a frame number display, and a display for displaying an image and a frame number on the basis of an output from the display control unit, wherein when a change of the display frame number is instructed by increment and decrement switches, a frame number being displayed, a frame number to be displayed, and an arrow representing shift of the display are superimposed and displayed on an image being displayed.

Electronic camera

An electronic camera includes a menu switch for displaying, on a display, the first print mode of printing only image data and the second print mode of superimposing and printing attendant data on image data, increment and decrement switches for moving menu items, and an execution switch for determining and executing a target item, wherein when an image file recorded on a recording medium is to be displayed on the display, if the electronic camera is in the first print mode, attendant data is superimposed and displayed on image data after the start of display, and display is switched to display of only the image data after a predetermined period, or if the electronic camera is in the second print mode, attendant data is always superimposed and displayed on image data during display.

An image coding system includes an optical system , an image pick-up unit , a color space/pixel number converting unit , an orthogonal converting unit , a quantizing unit , a variable run length coding unit and a storing/transmitting unit . The system further includes a code volume control unit for providing, in a first coding process, image data obtained from the color space/pixel number converting unit as a result of omission of at least the color space conversion, among the color space and pixel number conversions, to the orthogonal conversion unit , and computing quantizing coefficient data adequate for obtaining a target code volume from the code volume of coded data provided from the orthogonal converting unit and the target code volume. In a second coding process, the color space/pixel number converting unit executes both of the color space and pixel number conversions and provides resultant image data to the orthogonal converting unit or storage and/or transmission of coded data provided as a result from the orthogonal converting unit

Image coding system

An electronic camera includes a driving power supply unit which can be selectively connected to, as a driving power supply, an internal power supply including a battery and an external power supply, an image sensing unit for sensing an image and generating image data, a recording unit for signal-processing the image data from the image sensing unit and recording the data on a recording medium, a reconstruction unit for reconstructing an image from the recording medium and outputting the reconstructed image data to a printer, a display unit for selectively displaying a picture, a reconstructed image, and an operation menu, a power supply recognition unit for recognizing whether the driving power supply is a battery, and a control unit for inhibiting display by the display unit in accordance with the operation state of the printer when the power supply recognition unit recognizes the battery as the driving power supply.

An inter-frame predicted error signal generation unit generates an inter-frame predicted error signal for selectively performing prediction between an input image signal of the current frame and a decoded image signal of the previous frame, and between the input image signal of the current frame and the image signal of the previous frame. A coding unit selectively codes the inter-frame predicted error signal generated by the inter-frame predicted error signal generation unit and the input image signal with high-efficiency compression. A statistical amount calculation unit calculates a statistical amount of the inter-frame predicted error signal generated by the inter-frame predicted error signal generation unit. Based on the statistical amount of the inter-frame predicted error signal calculated by the statistical amount calculation unit, a discrimination unit discriminates whether or not coding by the coding unit is to be performed. A transmission unit transmits a discrimination signal indicating that coding is not to be performed when the discrimination unit discriminates that coding by the coding unit is not performed.

Motion-adaptive image signal processing system

During a recording operation, when receiving compressed moving-picture data from the moving-picture compression encoder, the code arrangement converter rearranges the data so that the core frame data may be distribution-recorded in a particular place on each track of the tape, for example, in the head portion of the main data area. In normal reproduction, the reproduced main data undergoes error correction and deinterleaving at the format reverse-converter. The resulting date is rearranged by the code arrangement reverse-converter to form the compressed moving-picture data in the same arrangement in recording. This compressed moving-picture data passes through the moving-picture expansion decoder and appears at the output terminal. During high-speed reproduction, for example, 9-fold speed reproduction, the main data in a frame corresponding to one of core frames 0 to 8 is reproduced. The resulting signal undergoes error correction and deinterleaving at the format reverse-converter. This deinterleaved data is supplied to the local read data arrangement circuit, which extracts one core frame of data. This data is decoded at the moving-picture expansion decoder and supplied at the output terminal.

Moving-picture data digital recording and reproducing apparatuses

The image sensing apparatus of the invention can easily and promptly search those areas of the main tracks of a floppy disk which store no data, or search or edit (e.g. copy) stored data, with the use of control data of a queue track and without an overhead. Further, it can automatically detect whether a recording medium is formatted upon insertion thereof, and then format it in a suitable manner if it has no formats.
