A light-sensitive element which comprises a substrate having provided thereon a light-sensitive layer which comprises microcapsules containing at least an ethylenically unsaturated compound and a photopolymerization initiator as active substances, wherein the active substances diffused from the microcapsules are present on and around the surface of the microcapsules. The light-sensitive element, when imagewise exposed to light, forms a continuous strong film in exposed areas, and unexposed areas can be easily washed off with water to give a printing plate which produces prints having no background contamination.

A positive-working type presensitized plate which comprises a hydrophilic support having provided thereon a layer which contains (i) microcapsules containing a photo-polymerizable monomer and/or light-sensitive resin and having a lipophilic wall membrane and (ii) a hydrophilic binder. This positive-working type presensitized plate has a high sensitivity and good development processing property, and from the presensitized plate a lithographic printing plate can be prepared having image areas of high printing durability and high ink-receptivity and causing no background contamination.

A dry presensitized plate for use in making a lithographic printing plate requiring no dampening water during printing, which comprises a support having provided thereon, in order, a light-sensitive layer of microcapsules comprising a photohardenable monomer or a light-sensitive resin and a silicone rubber layer. The dry presensitized plate makes it possible to obtain a dry lithographic printing plate without using any developers and the removal of the silicone rubber layer. Therefore, the development of the dry presensitized plate is simple and economical.

The photosensitive composition suitable as a posi-posi photosensitive composition for photosensitive lithographic printing plates is composed of a high molecular compound shown by following general formula I or II and an o-naphthoquinonediazide compound; ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. When the photosensitive composition is used as a photosensitive layer of a photosensitive lithographic printing plate and the plate is developed by rubbing with a sponge containing a developer, the photosensitive composition at the exposed areas is completely removed leaving no patches of the composition.
