A capillary electrophoresis apparatus is disclosed that does not discharge and achieves both compactness and performance even with a part configuration having insufficient spatial distance or creeping distance. This capillary electrophoresis apparatus is provided with a resistance heater for heating capillaries, an electrode holder that holds capillary electrodes and is connected to a high-voltage unit, and a conductive member that at least partially comprises metal and has been grounded to a low potential. The electrode holder and conductive member are in contact with heat-dissipating rubber disposed there between that composes a structure comprising an insulation member. As a result of this configuration, discharge risk is reduced through the reduction of the potential of parts near the high-voltage unit and the slow reduction of the high potential of the high-voltage unit.

With a microspectroscopy device provided with an objective lens with a high numerical aperture, a defocus arises from thermal drift, etc., necessitating auto-focusing. Conventional auto-focus based on through-focus image acquisition takes time, and thus, it cannot be applied to continuous measurement over a long time wherein high-speed sampling is carried out. The present invention addresses this problem by having a defocus-sensing beam that has either defocus or astigmatism fall incident on the objective lens. Since how the image of the spot of the beam for defocus sensing blurs differs depending on the orientation of the defocus, real-time detection of the amount and orientation of defocus becomes possible, and high-speed realtime auto-focus becomes possible.

A random access multipoint data communication system comprises a central station and a plurality of remote stations. A multiple access channel is established from the remote stations to the central station and a broadcast channel is established from the central station to the remote stations. A multiple access data communication system is disclosed wherein a communication channel is shared by a plurality of stations. The channel is divided into frames each being partitioned into time slots smaller in number than the number of stations of the system. A reservation status signal is constantly broadcast at frame intervals from a central station to all remote stations to indicate reserved status of the time slots. When a transmission request is made in a remote station, it discriminates a message signal shorter than the time slot length as a single packet having a time slot length and detects an idle time slot from the channel using the reservation status signal. If the message signal is longer than the time slot length, the station divides it into a series of packets of the time slot length and transmits a reservation request to the central station to receive from it a time-slot assignment signal and inserts the long-message packets to time slots specified by the time-slot assignment signal.

A discharge gap measuring circuit measures the gap between a machining electrode and a workpiece in an electric discharge machining apparatus which uses a pulsed voltage as input. The circuit includes peak detecting means to measure the peak value of the voltage that develops between the machining electrode and the workpiece. Further, waiting time detecting means measure the time from the beginning of the input electrical pulse to the actual start of the discharge. An adder circuit combines the outputs of the two detecting circuits to produce a voltage representative of the actual gap. The output is used for controlling the position of the workpiece or the electrode to maintain the gap at a constant level so that a uniform workpiece finish and accelerated operation is obtained.

A video signal transmission system wherein a television video signal is subjected to a waveform conversion in a video processing unit on a transmission side, then sent to a receiving side and restored in a restoring processing unit on the receiving side. The video processing unit comprises partly polarity inverts a composite video signal containing a horizontal synchronizing signal in accordance with a pseudo-random code utilizing a horizontal scanning frequency as a clock pulse such that the while level of an inverted video signal portion will not be smaller than a peak level of a non-inverted horizontal synchronizing signal portion. The restoring processing unit on the receiving side inverts again the polarity of the polarity inverted composite video signal portion in accordance with the pseudo-random code to obtain a restored composite video signal portion having the same polarity as the original composite video signal. A difference between the peak level of the horizontal synchronizing signal of the inverted and restored composite video signal portion and the peak level of the horizontal synchronizing signal of the non-inverted composite video signal portion is detected and feedback to the input of the restoring processing unit so as to control these peak levels to the same level.

A bidirectional constant current driving circuit is connected between the positive and negative terminals of a power supply. This drive circuit has an input terminal and an output terminal with a load coupled to the output terminal, and with the current supplied thereto being controlled to vary in either a positive or a negative electrical direction. The inventive driving circuit has four transistors . A first and second of these transistors have a first electrode connected to the first power supply terminal. The second transistor has second and third electrodes connected to a second electrode of the first transistor. A third and fourth of these transistors have a first electrode connected to the second power supply terminal. The fourth of these transistors has second and third electrodes connected to a second electrode of the third transistor. First and second resistors are serially connected between the third electrodes of the second and fourth transistors. The junction of the first and second resistors are connected to the input terminal. The third electrodes of the first and third transistors are coupled to the output terminal.

Automatic level control circuit

An amplitude limiting circuit is provided in which the input signal is fed to the non-inverting input terminal and the output is taken from the inverting input terminal of an operational amplifier having a feedback resistor connecting the inverting and output terminals of the amplifier. Either the input resistor, feedback resistor or operational amplifier supply voltages can be used to alter the upper and lower limit voltages of the circuit.
