In an image processing apparatus, an extracting unit extracts mutually the same region of interest from each of a plurality of pieces of three-dimensional image data corresponding to mutually-different time phases. Further, a position determining unit determines, on the basis of feature points included in the pieces of three-dimensional image data, a position used for superimposing together the regions of interest extracted by the extracting unit from the pieces of three-dimensional image data, in substantially the same position of a subject. After that, a display controlling unit changes a display format of each of the regions of interest extracted by the extracting unit from the pieces of three-dimensional image data so as to be mutually different and causes a superimposed image to be displayed by superimposing the regions of interest together in the position determined by the position determining unit.

An image processing system according to an embodiment includes a stereoscopic display apparatus, a rendering processor, and a display controller. The stereoscopic display apparatus displays a stereoscopic image enabled for a stereoscopic vision using a plurality of parallax images. The rendering processor generates a plurality of parallax images by applying a rendering process to volume data that is three-dimensional medical image data from a plurality of viewpoint positions having different relative positions with respect to the volume data. An image processing system according to an embodiment includes a first image creating unit, a second image creating unit, and a display controller. The first image creating unit creates a first image by performing a rendering processing on volume data which is three-dimensional medical image data. An X-ray CT scanner comprises an X-ray source generating an X-ray, detector detecting the X-ray transmitted through an object, processor to produce projection data, and reconstruction unit to reconstruct an image using the projection data. The processor produces the projection image by applying, to an output signal from the detector, logarithm conversion processing on a function deviating from an ideal logarithm function. The ideal logarithm function is a logarithm function defined by a mathematical formula of y&equals;K&middot;log &lsqb;b, x&rsqb; (wherein a variable x is an input, a variable y is an output, and a reference K shows a scaling constant). The function deviating from the ideal logarithm function has an input/output characteristic deviating from that of the ideal logarithm function. Such deviating function is for example a linear function and applied to a conversion of only low-count data into its projection data to suppress low-count artifacts on reconstructed CT images.

X-ray CT scanner capable of performing improved log conversion

A two-dimensional array type of X-ray detector, incorporated into an X-ray computerized tomography apparatus, has a plurality of X-ray detecting elements arranged in the X and Y directions for detecting incident X-rays into electric signals. A mask is placed on the X-ray incidence side of the X-ray detecting elements. The mask is formed with a pattern of shield portions in line form each extending substantially parallel to the channel direction (X direction) to shield edges of all the X-ray detecting elements arranged in the x direction from incident X-rays. Thereby, the instability of sensitivity of X-ray detection of the edges of the X-ray detecting elements and arrangement errors of the X-ray detecting elements in the slice direction (Y direction) are canceled out.

Two-dimensional array type of X-ray detector and computerized tomography apparatus

In an X-ray computed tomography apparatus, an X-ray tube for generating an X-ray is opposed to a main X-ray detector in order to acquire a projection data set necessary to reconstruct a tomogram. A first sub X-ray detector is arranged at the righthand of the main X-ray detector. A second sub X-ray detector is arranged at the lefthand of the main X-ray detector. Arranging the sub X-ray detectors adjacent to the respective opposite sides of the main X-ray detector enables accurate detection of the shift of an X-ray radiation field, and hence enables the reduction of errors due to the shift.
