A liquid crystal apparatus comprises: a liquid crystal device including a liquid crystal having a spontaneous polarization and causing a state change accompanied with a polarity inversion thereof within a response time. Drive means sequentially selects scanning signal lines each in a scanning selection period and applies data signal voltages to the pixels along an associated scanning signal line, wherein the scanning selection period for a scanning signal line is shorter than the response time for the liquid crystal at a pixel on the scanning signal line thus being liable to leave a remaining portion of polarity inversion to reach a desired state change, and the data signal voltage applied to the pixel is set to include a compensation voltage for compensating for a voltage decrease caused by the remaining portion of polarity inversion.

Liquid crystal apparatus

A display control apparatus and a display apparatus respectively include control units for controlling themselves. The display control apparatus reads or writes data in a memory that can be accessed by the control unit in the display apparatus. Accesses from the display control apparatus to the memory in the display apparatus are made via a bus arranged in addition to a display image data transfer bus.

A liquid crystal (composition) containing a ferroelectric liquid crystal shows a layer inclination angle .delta. in smectic phase providing a specific temperature dependence. The inclination angle .delta. increases on temperature decrease down to a mediate temperature and decreases on temperature decrease below the mediate temperature. The inclination angle .delta. keeps a positive value in an ambient temperature or starts to increase again on further temperature decrease before it reaches zero degrees. The liquid crystal (composition) is usable for providing a liquid crystal device or apparatus with decreased temperature dependences of driving conditions and improved low-temperature storage properties.
