An electronic device mounting structure includes a thermally conductive base, a busbar located on the base, an electronic device mounted on the busbar, a thermally conductive wall standing on the base and having first and second portions located opposite each other across the electronic device, and a plate spring supported by the first and second portions of the wall. The plate spring presses the electronic device against the base so that thermal resistance between the electronic device and the base is reduced. The plate spring has a thermal conductivity so that heat in the electronic device is transferred to the wall through the plate spring.

An electronic device mounting structure includes an electronic device, a busbar, and a solder. The electronic device has a body and a lead protruding from the body. The busbar has a flat portion and a wall portion rising from a periphery of the flat portion. The flat portion of the busbar extends parallel to a tip portion of the lead and is in contact with a back surface of the tip portion. The wall portion of the busbar faces a side surface of the tip portion with a predetermined space. The solder is located in the space and joins the side surface of the tip portion and the wall portion of the busbar.

A steering assisting system has a variable transfer ratio steering apparatus and an electric power steering apparatus. The variable transfer ratio steering apparatus has an electric motor for a rotation transfer ratio varying operation. When a predetermined failure occurs in the electric power steering apparatus, the motor is driven to assist the steering operation of the steering wheel. Therefore, without providing the electric power steering apparatus in two sets, the power-assisting torque generation can be continued even when the electric power steering apparatus fails to generate the power-assisting torque.

A control unit receives a sensor output and performs signal processing on the sensor output to produce an internal signal. The control unit produces internal data by adding time data to an internal signal and transmits the internal data to an in-vehicle network. A diagnostic unit receives the internal data from the in-vehicle network and stores the internal data in an internal data storing device. The diagnostic unit also receives a measurement signal produced based on the sensor output. The diagnostic unit produces external data by adding time data containing time at which the second timer resets a time count when an ignition switch is closed and stores the external data. The diagnostic unit reproduces the internal data and the external data and extracts the internal signal and the measurement signal. The diagnostic unit displays or stores the internal signal and the measurement signal according to the time data.

A power steering system includes a torsion bar, which is twistable around its axis for an amount corresponding to a steering torque applied to a steering shaft, a torque sensor, an electric motor, which is driven through a drive circuit to provide the steering shaft with steering assisting force, and motor control means for obtaining a steering torque from a digital signal transmitted from sensor and outputting a drive Duty signal to the drive circuit so that a current suitable for the steering torque is supplied to the electric motor. The torque sensor includes a permanent magnet, a magnetic body, and a Hall IC having a galvanomagnetic element, an AD converter circuit, and a serial communication circuit for digital communications with the motor control means through a communication line and a power supply ground line.

The optimum value of steering feelings in operating an electric power steering system depends on a vehicle model, changes in vehicle model characteristics, payload and driving conditions by secular changes, and the driver's preferences. A steering characteristics diagram selected by a steering characteristics diagram selection means is compiled by the use of a mouse on a display in accordance with a driver's tastes and tendencies, and vehicle driving conditions. An EPS (electric power steering) controller and an EPS driving motor are controlled by the steering characteristics diagram thus compiled, thereby assisting the steering operation. A driver can grasp the necessary amount of compilation as an intuitive amount while observing the steering characteristics diagram on a display. The driver may easily and rapidly reset a variety of steering feelings suited to the driver's personality in accordance with his tastes and tendencies, and the vehicle driving conditions.

Device and method for setting steering characteristics of electric power steering

A T-S converter is composed of a first rotor which has a first control coil, a second rotor and a stator which has a second control coil. The second rotor has a first magnetic field member (such as laminated sheets of ferromagnetic material) which supplies the first control coil with magnetic field and a second magnetic field member (such as laminated sheets of ferromagnetic material) which supplies the second control coil with magnetic field. The first and second control coils are energized to drive the second rotor to rotate at a set speed with a set torque according to vehicle running condition. The first and the second control coil are also energized to generate battery charging current when the vehicle speed is decreased and the second rotor is driven by the vehicle wheels.
