In an optical pick-up used in common with DVD/CD and BD, when the thickness is intended to be reduced by mounting a total reflection mirror, a cavity for passing through a laser light is necessary and, since this decreases the degree of freedom for arranging tracking coils and magnets and secondary resonance caused by a magnetic thrust in the tracking direction tends to be generated, an improvement therefor is necessary. In a lens coil holder of the optical pick-up having an objective lens and tracking coil mounted thereon each of the coils is arranged such that the thrust relative to the vertical center of the suspension wires that support the lens coil holder is well balanced. For example, most of the portion of the tracking coils is situated at one height relative to the suspension wire and the tilt coil is situated at the other remaining height.

In an optical pickup, it is configured such that a first and a second thrust bearings of a motor rotation shaft, a lens holder to be moved in a thrust direction by the motor rotation shaft, and a preload unit which exerts preload of the thrust direction on the lens holder are included, and the second thrust bearing can adjust a position in the thrust direction. In addition, the first and second thrust bearings and the motor rotation shaft are made of conductor, and the optical pickup is manufactured by including the processes of: moving the second thrust bearing in a direction approaching to the motor rotation shaft till electrical continuity between the first thrust bearing and the second thrust bearing is obtained using an electrical continuity checker; subsequently moving the second thrust bearing in a direction departing from the motor rotation shaft; and subsequently fixing the second thrust bearing to the base.

Optical pickup for use in optical disk device and method of manufacturing the same

In a lens actuator on which a first lens and a second lens are mounted, since the first lens and the second lens are disposed side by side, a problem is involved such that the lens actuator is bulky. The present invention provides a lens actuator comprising a first lens and a second lens having different optical paths, disposed between a light emitting element and an object lens, a holder for holding the first lens and second lens such that the optical axes of the first lens and second lens are parallel to each other, and a driving mechanism for driving the first lens and second lens each in the optical axis directions, wherein the first lens and second lens have respective outer periphery parts respectively outside the effective diameter, and the outer periphery parts of the first lens and the second lens are disposed to be partially overlapped with each other when viewed from the first lens and second lens optical axis direction.

It is an object of this invention to increase the rigidity of a movable part and decrease its weight. An objective lens driving apparatus has an objective lens which focuses light on the recording surface of an optical disk. The objective lens is driven by focusing coils in directions approaching and receding from the optical disk and is driven by tracking coils in the radial direction of the optical disk. The objective lens is held by a lens holder. A projecting part projecting outward from the outer side surfaces of the lens holder is formed around the entire peripheral edge of the bottom surface of the lens holder.

According to the invention, techniques for minimizing power consumption in optical disk drives. Embodiments according to the present invention can provide disk drives with optimal positioning of a fixing part of an objective lens driving unit incorporated therein. Spatial location of magnets can also be determined in order to reduce the power consumption and the torsion of the lens.

A bias magnet unit has a permanent magnet that applies a bias magnetic field to an optical spot on a magneto-optical disk. A driving coil rotates the magnet in order to change a polarity of the bias magnetic field. A sensor detects the intensity and polarity of the bias magnetic field to confirm the rotational position of the magnet after it has been rotated. A linkage structure that is connected between a magnet holder of the magnet unit and the housing has arms that drive the magnet unit between two positions, one in which the magneto-optical disk cartridge can be inserted into the device and another in which the disk is loaded onto the spindle motor for recording/playback. Overall, the components of the device cooperate structurally to provide a relatively thin device structure having low power consumption.

An optical head for a recording device in which data are recorded on a recording surface of an optical memory disk, comprises, a head body which is substantially prevented from moving perpendicularly to the recording surface and is movable to be positioned roughly along the recording surface, an object lens for focussing a light beam on the recording surface, a carriage on which the object lens is mounted and which is movable to be positioned precisely along the recording surface, a drive base member for generating a force substantially parallel to the recording surface between the drive base member and the carriage to position precisely the carriage along the recording surface, and an elastic member for connecting the drive base member to the head body to support the drive base member relative to the head body elastically in a direction substantially parallel to the recording surface, joining areas between the elastic member and the drive base member and between the elastic member and the head body are aligned substantially straightly.

An optical pickup device having a dust blocking function according to the present invention includes a casing having an opening therein, an optical system disposed within an interior of the casing and having photoelectric elements optically coupled with each other, an objective lens disposed inside the opening as spaced from an edge of the opening to be optically coupled with the optical system, driving device for moving the objective lens to a desired position, and a resilient member for sealing a gap between the edge of the opening and the object lens, whereby the resilient member enables movement of the object lens while preventing any intrusion of dust into an interior of the pickup device having the optical system incorporated therein.

Disclosed is a device for driving an objective lens of an optical disk apparatus in both the tracking direction and the focusing direction. The device comprises a rocker arm supported rotatably and axially slidably by a supporting shaft and carrying the objective lens on its front end, a pair of first coils disposed on both sides respectively of an end on rear end of the rocker arm remote from the front end carrying the objective lens for driving the objective lens in the tracking direction, and a second coil mounted to the lower surface of the rocker arm for driving the objective lens in the focusing direction. A pair of magnets for producing a magnetic field for driving the objective lens in the focusing direction and a magnetic field for driving the objective lens in the tracking direction are mounted to a pair of yokes erected on both sides of the supporting shaft respectively. Current is supplied to the first coils to produce moments of rotation rotating the rocker arm thereby driving the objective lens in the tracking direction, and current is supplied to the second coil to move the rocker arm in the axial direction of the supporting shaft thereby driving the objective lens in the focusing direction.
