A printing apparatus having an adhesive applying function is provided with a transporting mechanism for transporting an elongated print member, a transferring mechanism for transporting a transferring member having adhesive, contained in a cartridge installed on the apparatus, and for selectively bringing the transferring member into contact with the print member transported by the transporting mechanism, thereby transferring the adhesive of the transferring member onto the surface of the print member which no data is to be printed on, a controlling unit for controlling whether the transferring mechanism transfers the adhesive of the transferring member onto the surface of the print member which no data is to be printed on, and a printing mechanism provided on the downstream side of the transferring mechanism, for processing print data including rotation of the data in unit of 90 degrees, and for printing the data on the surface of the print member.

A printing device includes a driver rotating and driving a feeder roller feeding a printing target member, a printing section performing printing on the printing target member, a cutter cutting the printing target member, a transfer mechanism which is provided at an upstream side of the feeding direction of the printing target member over the printing section and which selectively causes a transfer member with an adhesive to be in contact with the printing target member while feeding the transfer member to transfer the adhesive, and a transfer controller controlling transfer/non-transfer. The transfer/non-transfer of the adhesive to the printing target member is controlled based on positive/reverse rotation of a motor, and a print tape with an adhesive on the whole surface, a partial adhesive or no adhesive at all and without a paper liner is freely creatable.

The present invention is intended to provide an EIA method utilizing bioluminescence using a firefly luciferase. The EIA method of the present invention is characterized by using an ATP-generating enzyme as a labeling enzyme, subjecting ATP generated to bioluminescence by the use of the firefly luciferase, and measuring the quantity of light emitted. Acetate kinase is a preferred enzyme used in the method.

A hand-held manually sweeping copier is manually swept over a medium so as to obtain image data corresponding to image information on the medium via an image sensor of a CCD type or the like. The image data obtained via the image sensor is arranged in order, in accordance with the sweeping direction of the copier, and stored in a memory, the addressing of which is controlled in accordance with the sweeping direction of the copier. In addition, the copier prints the image data on a printing medium, i.e., a plain paper, while the copier is being manually swept across the printing medium.

An obstacle detection system has a sensor unit including a plurality of ultrasonic transducers and sequentially changes the number of pulses provided to groups of transducers, thereby performing front center sensing, front right sensing and front left sensing. The time between emission of ultrasonic waves and reception of waves reflected by an obstacle is calculated by a timer. A microcomputer computes the distance data and position data of the obstacle in accordance with obtained timer data and sensing region data.

Obstacle detection system

An obstacle sensing area ahead of a mobile robot is divided into a plurality of sensing regions. A number of ultrasonic transmitters and plural receivers on the robot cooperate to detect the presence of obstacles in the sensing regions. Coordinates representing four corners of each sensing region, and time data representing a time period from emission of ultrasonic waves from selected transmitters to reception of the waves by each receiver when the waves are reflected by an obstacle at each corner point, are prestored in data ROMs. The data ROMs are retrieved by a CPU in response to obtained time data, and precise position data of the obstacle in the sensing area is determined.
