An ultrasonic sensor for detecting an object includes a sending element for sending an ultrasonic wave to the object, a receiving portion for receiving the wave reflected by the object, a first transmitting portion for transmitting a vibration of the wave received by the receiving portion, a second transmitting portion and an oscillating portion which is oscillated by the vibration. The receiving portion is exposed to a space where the object exists. The second transmitting portion is coupled between the first transmitting portion and the oscillating portion so as to transmit the vibration from the first transmitting portion to the oscillating portion.

Ultrasonic sensor

A stacked piezoelectric device and a method of fabrication thereof includes a piezoelectric stack having a first side electrode and a second side electrode, piezoelectric layers and internal electrode layers. The piezoelectric layers and internal electrode layers have substantially the same area. The internal electrode layers have ends thereof exposed to one side of the stack. The first side electrode includes first insulative portions formed at the ends of alternate ones of the internal electrode layers and a first conductive portion formed over the first insulative portions. The second side electrode is similarly configured to form insulative portions at the other ends. The first and second insulative portions are formed of an insulative resin, while the first and second conductive portions are formed of a conductive resin. The first and second conductive portions are also formed to directly cover the ends of the internal electrode layers.

Stacked piezoelectric device and method of fabrication thereof

A 2-dimensional code reader includes a camera for scanning a surface which carries a 2-dimensional code thereon, an amplifier for amplifying electric signals fed from the camera, a device for identifying a code-region out of the scanned surface and a device for detecting information contained in the 2-dimensional code. The amplifying rate or gain is controlled according to a signal level representing a brightness of the identified code-region, not depending on a brightness of a whole scanned surface. The amplifier may includes an automatic gain controller which controls the amplifying rate according to the brightness of the whole scanned surface. In this case, the amplifying rate is adjusted based on an areal ratio of the code-region to the whole scanned surface area to obtain a clear image of the code, irrespective of the brightness of the scanned surface. Some symbol marks may be included in the 2-dimensional code in order to effectively identify the code-region on the scanned surface.

2-dimensional code reader

A dust-proof plate transmits light emitted by red light emitting diode unit. When the dust-proof plate reflects a part of the light, the reflected light incident on an image forming optical system becomes an optical noise in reading the image information of a reading object. In order to prevent the optical noise from being generated, an incident-side opening of a lens barrel is positioned proximately to the dust-proof plate. Thus, the light reflected from the dust-proof plate can be prevented from being introduced into the lens barrel.

A bar code recognition system in which a threshold value for discriminating each bar of bar codes is automatically corrected. Bar codes representing information are constituted by a combination of wide and narrow bars to be scanned and converted into a rectangular signal having a time width proportional to the width of each bar. In proportion to the total time widths of the rectangular signal generated in each scanning cycle, the threshold value with reference to which each bar width is discriminated is determined to enhance the recognition operation of the system.

Method and apparatus for recognizing bar codes

Bar symbols having different bar width for representing information are grouped and recorded on a surface of an object. A light-responsive sensor is swept automatically to repetitively scan the density of the surface-reflected light along the direction in which thegrouped bar symbols are arranged, while the object is moved orthogonally thereto. Electrical signals indicative of the bar width derived from the sensor are processed thereafter for the read-in of the coded data.

Method and apparatus to read in bar-coded information

A light source, a converging lens and a light responsive image sensor are optically coupled to recognize the code information such as bar codes recorded on an object. The light source supplies the code information with illumination light and the image sensor receives the reflected light through the converging lens to convert it into the image signal. The distance between the lens and the image sensor is adjusted automatically in response to the image signal such that clear reflected light is received by the image sensor, whereby correct information recognizing operation is attained.

Method and apparatus for recognizing code information

A system for recognizing bar code information having a plurality of bar codes. One of bar codes is constituted as an index code in a different manner from the other bar codes constituted as numerical codes. These bar codes are scanned sequentially and converted into corresponding parallel digital signals. Code scanning directions are discriminated with reference to the parallel digital signal corresponding to the index code. A plurality of registers adapted to memorize each parallel digital signal are triggered in forward and reverse sequences, when the scanning directions are discriminated to be forward and reverse, respectively.

System for recognizing bar code information

A light source and a light responsive sensor are optically coupled to recognize information such as bar codes recorded on an object. The light source projects illumination light onto the object and the sensor receives the reflected light the density of which represents the recorded information. The sensor is swept to convert the light density into an image signal which is then passed through a filter. An image signal, the low frequency noise signal component resulting from the fluctuation of the illumination light being excluded therefrom by the filter, is available for recognizing the recorded information precisely.

Method and apparatus to optically recognize recorded information

A bar code having a plurality of parallel bars recorded in either narrow width or wide width is scanned by a plurality of light responsive elements which are driven one by one by a clock pulse of a fixed frequency. The intermittent output image signal of the elements is converted into a continuous signal by sample-and holding the peak level of the image signal at the same frequency as that of the clock pulse. The continuous signal is then compared with a reference value to be converted into a rectangular signal which has time intervals proportional to respective bar widths. For discriminating each bar width, each time interval of the rectangular signal is measured by counting a clock pulse of another fixed frequency and compared with another reference value. The frequency of the clock pulse for interval measuring purpose is determined to be higher than that of the clock pulse for scanning and sample-and-holding purposes.

A card on which at least a group of bar-coded information are printed is carried by a motor-driven carrier. The bar-coded information is sensed and converted into a group of parallel digital signals, which is compared with a previously stored data to check coincidence. The same bar-coded information is repeatedly sensed, converted, and compared as above and number of the coincidence times is counted until it has passed a read-in position driven by the card carrier. The card is accepted as readable when the number of coincidence times reaches a preset number. Otherwise, it is rejected by reversing the motor.

Method and apparatus to read-in bar-coded information

An antiskid control device for vehicles, comprising a timer circuit for producing a timing signal in synchronism with the extinction of a release signal for a skid control, apparatus for rapidly increasing the braking pressure applied to the wheel in response to said timing signal coming from the timer circuit, and correcting apparatus for increasing the braking pressure increasing rate when a large amount of friction is present between the wheel and the road surface, said antiskid control device being able to hold the fluctuation of the braking pressure within a narrow range to prevent unnecessary vibrations of the vehicle at the time of braking due to the fact that the braking pressure increasing rate is changed when the braking pressure is reapplied to the wheel, and being able to control the braking operation at all times in a manner best suited to the various road surface conditions encountered so that a skid of the vehicle is prevented from occurring and the braking distance is reduced greatly, due to the fact that the braking pressure increasing rate is adjusted in accordance with the coefficients of friction between the wheel and the road surface.

An anti-skid control system for preventing skidding of a vehicle caused by the braking of the vehicle while it is in motion in the system when a vehicle speed signal generated from vehicle speed detecting apparatus becomes lower than a predetermined value, discriminating apparatus generates a discrimination signal and the braking pressure applied to the wheel is modulated through limiting apparatus including a logical gate and controlled by the discrimination signal. On the other hand, when the vehicle body speed becomes lower than a predetermined value, the generation of the discrimination signal is prevented by a deceleration sensor, thus suitably controlling the braking pressure in accordance with the surface conditions of the road.

Anti-skid control system for vehicles

An anti-skid control system for vehicles wherein, in view of the fact that while it is desirable for a vehicle anti-skid control system to detect the speed of the vehicle body and the speed of the wheel to positively prevent the skidding of the vehicle, it is very difficult to detect the speed of the vehicle body, a plurality of control patterns for decreasing the wheel speed to prevent the locking of the wheels under an excessively large braking pressure are predetermined, whereby the selection among the control patterns is effected according to the conditions of the road surface detected by a vehicle body deceleration sensor and a reference wheel speed according to the selected control pattern is compared with the actual wheel speed to forcibly reduce the braking pressure when there is a tendency for the wheels to lock, thereby preventing the locking of the vehicle and hence the skidding of the vehicle without detecting the speed of the vehicle body.
