A coating of niobium oxide, zirconium titanate, or nickel titanate is formed on at least a part of a surface of a jet pump member constituting a jet pump serving as a reactor internal structure of a boiling water reactor. Further, a solution containing, e.g., a niobium compound is applied to at least a part of the surface of the jet pump member constituting the jet pump, and the jet pump member coated with the solution is heat-treated to form a coating of, e.g., niobium oxide. With this configuration, the jet pump member constituting the jet pump of the boiling water reactor is provided such that deposition of crud can be sufficiently suppressed on the jet pump member.

A steam turbine blade includes a coating film formed at least a portion of a surface of the steam turbine blade, the coating film containing a ceramic matrix and nanosheet particles dispersed in the ceramic matrix. The steam turbine blade is employed as one of stator blades or one of rotor blades in a steam turbine. The steam turbine includes a turbine rotor, the rotor blades implanted in the turbine rotor, the stator blades provided in an upstream side of the corresponding rotor blades, and a turbine casing supporting the stator blades and accommodating turbine rotor, the rotor blades and the stator blades. The steam turbine is also configured such that the rotor blades are paired with the corresponding stator blades to form turbine stages arranged in an axial direction of the turbine rotor, thereby forming steam paths.

Sintered bodies with the primary phase of .beta. and/or .alpha. prime sialon. In the sialon phase which is the primary phase, hafnium oxide and silicon carbide are dispersedly contained as dispersion phases. 1 to 60 parts by weight of hafnium oxide are contained in 100 parts by weight of the primary phase. 5 to 30 parts by weight of silicon carbide are contained in 100 parts by weight of the primary phase. Hafnium oxide suppresses decrease of sintering characteristic which is caused by silicon carbide. Thus, a large amount of silicon carbide can be added, thereby improving the fracture toughness value.

A wear-resistant member formed comprises a sintered ceramic body essentially consisting of 0.1 to 15% by weight of at least one material selected from the group comprising molybdenum carbide, niobium carbide, hafnium carbide, tantalum carbide, tungsten carbide, molybdenum silicide, niobium silicide, hafnium silicide, tantalum silicide, tungsten silicide, molybdenum boride, niobium boride, hafnium boride, tantalum boride, and tungsten boride, 2 to 20% by weight of a boundary phase selected from the group consisting of Si--Y--Al--O--N and Si--Y--Al--O--N--B, and a balance of .beta.-silicon nitride. The wear-resistant member preferably has a metal member bonded to the sintered ceramic body. The wear-resistant member can perform high-load work such as high-speed cutting.

A highly thermoconductive ceramic substrate, which is characterized by having formed on a ceramic substrate an electroconductive coating of a mixture of tungsten and/or molybdenum with the nitride of a transition metal belonging to Group IVa of the Periodic Table of Elements. As the ceramic substrate in the present invention, a non-oxide type ceramic substrate is used because of satisfactory strength. The formation of the electroconductive coating consisted preponderantly of a mixture of tungsten and/or molybdenum with the nitride of a metal belonging to Group IVa of the Periodic Table Elements is accomplished, for example, by preparing a metallizing composition in the form of a paste or solution containing a metal salt of tungstic acid or molybdic acid and a transition metal of Group IVa or a compound thereof, applying the metallizing composition on the ceramic substrate, heating the resulting composite, then firing the composite.

This invention relates to a metallizing composition capable of forming an electroconductive coating of satisfactory adherence properties on the surface of a sintered ceramic article, particularly on a sintered silicon nitride type ceramic article. The metallizing composition contains metal salts of tungstic acid and/or molybdic acid and a metal of Group IVb of the Periodic Table of Elements or a compound thereof. The electroconductive coating of high adherence properties is formed by applying the metallizing composition on a sintered ceramic article and drying the deposited layer of the composition in air, heating the dried layer, and firing the layer in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The metallizing composition is suitable for the formation of the electroconductive coating on a complexly shaped sintered ceramic article such as, for example, on the inner surface of a hollow ceramic article.

Metallizing composition for sintered ceramic article

A method for forming on the surface of a sintered article of silicon nitride type ceramic a coating film of a compound containing titanium or zirconium is disclosed. This metal compound coating is easily and inexpensively obtained by placing a metal-containing substance such as, for example, titanium dioxide in contact with a sintered article of silicon nitride type ceramic and sintering the resultant composite in a non-oxidative atmosphere.
