Disclosed is a sample holding carrier allowing samples to be measured accurately, and a fluorescence detection device for use with the sample holding carrier. A biosensor substrate includes a base substrate, a plurality of wells formed on a first surface side of the base substrate; and grooves formed on the first surface side of the base substrate separately from the wells and generating fluorescence under exposure to excitation light. The fluorescence detection device applies excitation light to the grooves, thereby figuring out the level of the fluorescence to be detected from the biosensor substrate. As a result, the fluorescence detection device can amplify the detection signals of the fluorescence generated when the excitation light is applied to the wells to an appropriate level, thereby accurately detecting the fluorescence generated in the samples.

Therefore, the sample accommodated in bottom surface portion of well can surely and efficiently be irradiated with the excitation light, and accurately be measured.

The skin incision instrument according to the present invention comprises a holder, a needle, a needle drive unit, two or more skin expander sets, and a reader, wherein the skin expander sets comprise a first skin expander and a second skin expander; the first skin expander and the second skin expander are capable of expanding skin at both sides of the linear incision portion away from the linear incision portion and expanding the linear incision portion in a direction to expand the linear incision portion; and, minimal portions are efficiently incised by selecting a single skin expander set from two or more of the skin expander set based on the direction of the linear incision portion, such that an angle is adjusted to 45 degrees or more and 90 degrees or less wherein the angle is formed by the direction of the linear incision portion read by the reader and the direction to expand the skin by the single skin expander set.

The artificial lipid membrane forming method of the present invention comprises the steps of: preparing the artificial lipid membrane forming apparatus; adding to the first chamber a first electrolytic solution having a viscosity of not lower than 1.3 mPa&#xb7;s and not higher than 200 mPa&#xb7;s; adding a lipid solution to the artificial lipid membrane forming portion; adding to the second chamber a second electrolytic solution having a viscosity of not lower than 1.3 mPa&#xb7;s and not higher than 200 mPa&#xb7;s; and forming the artificial lipid membrane.

Method for forming artificial lipid membrane

The present invention provides a method for detecting easily and efficiently a chemical substance contained in a gas sample at an ultralow amount. The present invention is directed to detecting method of a chemical substance contained in a gas sample, using an analyzing device with electrostatic atomizer. The analyzing device comprises a vessel, a inlet, a cooling part, an atomizing electrode, a counter electrode, an intermediate electrode, a liquid detecting part, and a detecting electrode. According to a detecting method of the present invention, the gas sample is condensed as a first condensate liquid at the surface of the atomizing electrode. The first condensate liquid is configured to be electric-charged fine particles to obtain a second condensate liquid at the surface of the counter electrode. The resulted second condensate liquid is brought in contact with the detecting electrode and a current voltage is applied between the counter electrode and the detecting electrode. The chemical substance is detected on the basis of the generated current value.

Method for detecting a chemical substance

Handling of the condensate collecting vessel in conventional breath analysis apparatuses having a cold condensation mechanism is complicated, and time consuming. The present invention provides a method for analyzing exhaled breath using a breath analysis apparatus, the breath analysis apparatus including: a vessel; an injection port of the exhaled breath; an outlet port of the exhaled breath; a cooling unit; an electrode zone; a counter electrode zone; and a chemical substance detection unit, in which the exhaled breath contains water vapor and a volatile organic compound, the volatile organic compound having a molecular weight of no lower than 15 and no higher than 500, and the method for exhaled breath analysis comprising the steps of: injecting the exhaled breath from the injection port into the vessel; condensing the exhaled breath on the outer peripheral surface of the electrode zone by cooling the electrode zone with the cooling unit; forming charged fine particles from the condensed breath; recovering the charged fine particles into the chemical substance detection unit by an electrostatic force; and detecting the volatile organic compound included in the charged fine particles recovered.

Exhaled breath analysis method

The present invention of collecting a gaseous sample employs a sealable container, an inlet mounted at a part of the container, an outlet mounted at another part of the container, an atomizing electrode mounted in the container, a primary refrigerator mounted adjacent to the atomizing electrode, an opposite electrode mounted in the container, an acicular capture electrode mounted adjacent to the opposite electrode, and a secondary refrigerator mounted adjacent to the capture electrode. Charged microparticles are prepared by chilling the gaseous sample and producing condensate of the same. Such charged microparticles are collected by the capture electrode with static electricity, and they are condensed by chilling them. This method prevents the capture electrode from spreading solution thereon.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for easily forming an artificial lipid membrane in a short period of time and an artificial lipid membrane forming apparatus suitable for carrying out such method. The present invention relates to a method for forming an artificial lipid membrane using an artificial lipid membrane forming apparatus. The apparatus comprises a substrate, a first spacer, a first thin film, a second spacer, a second thin film, and a cover, wherein a first chamber is formed between the substrate and the first thin film, the first thin film has a first through hole, a second chamber is formed between the first thin film and the second thin film, the second thin film has a second through hole, and the cover has an inlet. The method includes in this order a first electrolytic solution pouring step of pouring an electrolytic solution to the first chamber, a lipid solution pouring step of pouring a lipid solution to the first through hole or the second through hole, and a second electrolytic solution pouring step of pouring the electrolytic solution to the inlet to form the artificial lipid membrane inside the through hole to which the lipid solution is poured.
